UPS damaged the package before delivery, and sent the whole package back to the shipper. It is currently on it's way back to me now. (he said that he the box was damaged and he re taped it.) If the board does not work or is busted any helpful advice on how to get swift results and a resolution out of UPS would be appreciated.

UPS should not be to hard to file a claim on. I used to do it for a living many years ago, and it was an easy process.

I could not tell by your post how many times this item shipped, but it sounded like the shipper sent it twice. That might be a problem.

If he sent it the first time, they damaged it and returned to him, it would be his job to file a claim for damages.

If he then fixes the box and re-sends it to you, you cannot prove that the second shipment caused the damage. Mostly it's up to the person who first received it damaged to file a claim.

Also, was there any insurance on the package? I know UPS has $100 of insurance automatically on any package, so if you had no other insurance that would be the max you could claim.

They probably have info on their web site about how to file a claim, but if the shipper had an issue w/the first shipment, he needs to do the claim with the original shipping numbers.

Digital pictures help... And hounding them on the horn if necessary.

No big deal - snap a pic of the box BEFORE you open it. Test the item. If it's broke then file your claim. I've never had them ask for pictures or send anyone to my house before. Been there done that and it is a NO HASSLE ordeal.

Oh, Also if you need to sign for it, make sure you note that the box was damaged upon delivery. That helps a lot!

I avoid UPS at all costs if given a choice. Of all of the carriers, that is the only one who has lost items coming to me and lost items that I have shipped. The boxes arrive the most beat up of any carrier also on a consistent basis. I'm in the Chicagoland area and it may be a regional issue, but I "just say no" to UPS. My uncle works for them and does not disagree with me about my experiences.

The UPS claims that I have made, however, have been processed and honored but nothing can make up for losing a rare part that you needed, insured it and had it shipped overnight via UPS and took you another six months to find a replacement that wasn't nearly as nice and cost twice as much.

Be aware that if there is not 2-3 inches of packing on ALL 6 sides, your claim will be denied, even if it's in the original manufacturer's box and packing. Yes, to send a Rubiks cube (3x3x3) they require a minimum box size of 7x7x7 to 9x9x9 before they even start to consider paying. Of course nearly nothing is sent like this, both from person-to-person sales as well as big-store sales that even stick a label on a retail shelf box and hope it arrives safely.

And the packing better not be crumpled or shredded paper. It has to be solid foam, densely packed packing peanuts (or air bags acceptable only for very large inner boxed items) such that there is no way for the inside item to shift towards any side (virtually ruling out anything besides solid foam and often requiring inner boxing).

They are a pain to deal with, and there can be wheel tracks across the box and they still won't pay damages in many cases.

Under $100 claims are easier to get so long as packing is deemed 'sufficient', over $100 take a lot of work, even though they now instantly charge for $400 if you want $100-$399 worth.

I'd have to agree. We moved away from the city to the burbs and in the 9months or so I was getting UPS I had more claims to file than the entire 9years at was at the city address. I have since switched to FedEx.

Make sure you take lots of pics before you open it, after you open it to show the packing and when you test the item. They will most likely tell you sorry, claim rejected. Ignore it and keep pushing for the refund. It also seems to be easier if you buy a replacement item and include the receipt.

It's a well known fact that UPS actually stands for "United Package Smashers"

Hopefully you had enough foresight to properly package and insure your package, If not the most you can collect is 100.00 plus the cost of shipping. Take Pics. Keep the claim form simple, and call then on the status of the claim every two or three days. They used to have a co. policy to deny all claims of 100.00 or more - not sure if this is still in effect...

good luck
