Just a quick question- Is there a difference between an Asteroids/Asteroids Deluxe upright or cocktail PCB? Is it a switch setting or chip change on the board or a whole new board?

Thanks for the help.

It's the way it's wired in the cabinet. On the edge connector in a cocktail there are pins shorted. So you just need to make sure you have a cocktail wiring harness in a cocktail game.

Some games do have a cocktail switch, but I think all of the atari vectors do it with the wiring harness.

On the cocktail wiring, the invert x and invert y are shorted to the player two ground so that the screen will flip for player 2.

Asteroids PCB and Asteroids Deluxe PCB are not interchangeable for game play and would require re work or an adaptor.

One minor addition: the oldest versions of Asteroids PCBs did not support cocktail mode; it was added at Rev C of the -01 thru -04 type boards. (The -05 & -06 type have it no matter the revision letter).

Thanks for the detailed info. How would I identify the correct board?
