UPDATED 2-18-17: My first freebie, side of the road trash pick up: Space Duel

Seen this ad 6:37pm tonight...was up for an hour by the time i seen the ad...and it was 1 hr 2 minutes away...i wasnt doing anything so i gave it a shot. ..score!

As i was loading it the owners pulled up and said it smokes up when u turn it on so they r throwing it away.

This is my first vector..gonna be a while before i can address the issues with it....6 games ahead of this one.

Damn nice score, sir. Good on you for saving that, as a lot of us were cringing at the thought of a vector getting tossed, from the other thread. If the owners only knew how much money they just threw away...

Curious to see where the smoke is coming from.

No idea...i just got home (9:36 pm)....i just unloaded it..put it on back patio (covered patio) and threw a blue tarp over it....one day i will mess with it....no keys so I have to drill all the locks.

I still can't believe it was still there...they said its been on side of the road since monday...(no rain)...they just put the ad up today.....im stunned still.

If they are regular arcade locks (i.e., not cylindrical), do yourself a favor and get a cheap pick set and pick them instead of drilling.

Much easier, and no risk of getting metal shavings where they can cause badness.

This is a really cool story.
Pretty strange CL post. I reads like it was listed by a passerby that saw the game sitting there and didn't want to see it trashed. Good on whoever did that.

The owner said she thinks her brother posted it.

Wow, are you telling us it's complete? It boggles the mind.

Next you'll tell us the smoke was coming from a faulty red HV transformer (meaning it's an Amplifone version Space Duel). That would make it go from a $700 freebie to, what, $1000 maybe?

I know nothing about vectors..this is my first so expect to see threads in the repair sections...and yes..100% complete....cab in pretty decent condition too....this weekend i will ooen it up..have to drill the locks.

Well...come to think of it, not 100% complete...lower part of coin door is missing.

Any guidance u can give me to help determine exactly what version i have woukd be helpful...what do i look for?

Well you have like a 99% chance of having a 6100 in there, the amplifone option on Space Duel was very low numbers. But the easiest thing is to look at the back of the monitor: if it has a metal frame with the PBCs on it—like every other monitor you've ever seen—you have the 6100. If the monitor looks like a tube hanging by itself with the pcbs mounted on the sides of the cabinet, you have the amp.

I am so glad somebody picked this up, I wake up from dreams where I'm picking up free vectors off somebody's front yard! Hope you get it working soon, vectors are different to fix, but not necessarily difficult.

No smoking in the house.
If your going to smoke you go out to the curb.......

Particle board is largely composed of glue that emits nasty chemicals when it Burns is not a good thing have smoking inside or outside understand. Getting rid of it probably seems like a spectacular idea. That sort of behavior is for the "those who don't know better crowd" or "the more money than brains Club". not everybody can know everything so yay for us smart people and free game! Good job!

Just an offhanded guess but the first place I would look for smoke damage would be the low voltage section of the monitor.
