Update on Rusty Quarters Retro Arcade & Museum, Minneapolis MN

UPDATE:
Annie and I have painted and cleaned up the retail spot, set up two sitting areas (table and chairs upfront and ottomans in the back), cleaning up our current games and making space for our remaining games that are on their way. Theres still some work to be done (changing out marquee and button lights, fixing coin slots, getting candy and soda pop orders in,etc.) and hoping to get Ms Pac-Man working (loose woobley wire somewhere) by the time we open. John at VintageVideoGames.com will be shipping our remaining 10 games this week. Look at www.RQARCADE.com for our game list. Then the only thing thats holding us up is waiting for paperwork to be filed. For us to open Rusty Quarters, there's alot of legel paperwork that needs to be filed with the city and state (which we sent out back in September)... and theres ALOT of waiting involved. Now we're still waiting for the offical A-OK from proper Minneasota offices. Trust me when I say that I want to open ASAP, but without the offical permits and licenses, we can't turn on one ON switch without getting fined fees and all of our arcade machines confiscated. Sorry, thems' the rules! We hope that we'll be able to open by December 1st or earlier. Thanks for your continuing patience and check back with our facebook page for more updates.

Thanks,
Annie and Sage Spirtos

it's an idea.. we're thinking of a free day free play as a soft opening...

I wouldn't do that before your licenses are in place. You don't want to chance making Minneapolis mad, the ones you hope give you a place of amusement license so you can have more games.

Sadly our laws are changing in this country. We used to be based on English common law, innocent until proven guilty. Now with INS, IRS, DWI, etc. you are guilty unless you can prove yourself innocent.

And there is no way being open you'll be able to prove you didn't make something.

Now after your licenses are in place, if you want to do a free play grand opening party, that would be different.

LTG :)

You misunderstood. We're thinking of having a soft opening/Free Day Free Play for members of game forums, facebook members, and Local Press... but only after we have everything filed and ok'd by Minneapolis Zoning.

Some games we can turn on free play from the startup menu. Others we will put on 10-20 credits for the first hour and check the games every 20 minutes. after a couple of days, we'll know how many free credits to add per hour between our Early Bird Hours of 12-3pm.

Your going to turn Free Play on and off every day?

Some pics showing that We're working on it!

They space is almost cleaned up and all of the games are unpacked and are in place. Now I got to make a list of things to fix (a couple of burned out bulbs, balancing screen colors, checking coin mechs, fixing stiff controllers, etc.). We got an update on our legal paperwork being filed and should be ready to open by the first week of December.

Looking awesome! Sounds like it's going to be a cool place.

Although, every time I read a thread about this, and see the name, it bugs me... Quarters don't rust, because they're non-ferrous...

Although, I guess, if you were in Canada, it would make more sense, but they'd have to be some pretty damaged quarters, as while the base metal is steel, they're still coated with a copper/nickel plating.

:D

I was thinking the same thing since I do allot of metal detecting. Looks good, you should have a KLOV party night sometime soon-- I'll make the drive up with the family...

We originally picked the name because:

1) It sounds Old Timey
2) In the planning stages, we were going to use brass tokens... which look like Rusty Quarters.

Even though we decided to go All Quarters, We still really liked the name.

So there you go!

Because the people ask:

Yes, we'll be dimming the lights when we open.

No, because protesting emails, there will be no Black Lights.

Hers some more pics:

Congrats on getting closer to opening...

Just a suggestion, but I think I'd move that big fancy reception desk to the back and bring the games up to the front. It seems out of place there and your storefront might be better served by passers-by seeing games rather than the reception counter.

Just my .02

Also, on your site it mentioned unlimited play for $5 from 12-3. I'm curious how are you going to switch each game to accept quarters after 3?

Congrats again....you've got some great looking cabs there and it's great to see things like this come to fruition :)

Just working really hard to get all the games in working order. I'm just pissed because I recently received some machines that should have been in working order but are not. I've been busy all this week replacing controller switches, adjusting monitor colors, and replacing marquee lighting hardware. So far there's 3 that I can't fix (2 with monitor problems and one that just isn't working). I'm just hoping that I can have my repair guy take a look at them and hopefully fix them before we open. I'm just pissed that I'm spending so much time and $$$ that I don't have on fixing machines that should have been in 100% working order... FUCK!

Sorry for the gripe, Just really pissed off about purchasing fix'r up'rs when I already have to a laundry list of things to do before we open. But I have faith that everything will be a-ok for our opening in 2 weeks.
