I am buying a new house with a great basement in which I plan to create a home arcade. There are already two machines in the basement. Since I want them anyways, I am hoping to buy them from the current owner and have him leave them there. I do not want to rip him off but I also don't want to get ripped off. The games are a 2005 Golden Tee Fore and a 2007 Stern Spider-Man pinball. I tried to include them in the sale but he took them out before accepting the offer. He said I could buy them separately. They appear to be in good condition externally but I have never turned them on and played them. Assuming they are in good working condition, what is a fair price for them? Thanks!

There is a price check sub-forum but...

I would say $350 - $450 tops for the golden tee.

@$5500 for standard spiderman pin. You might be able to get it cheaper if he isn't a pin head because he likely paid less than that new.

If you were to roll them into the mortgage, it would be interesting what the eventual cost would be.

I tried that but I am guessing they have some sort of financial lien on the house and want some side cash. I bought the house for $1,000,000 even. I am fine with buying them separately.

I am sorry. I didn't know about the price check forum. He said they were worth $7500 after I offered him $4000. Perhaps $6000 would be a fair compromise? Thanks for your help.

You made a fair offer. If he doesn't want $4,000 then let him move that stuff and you can buy your own games. The seller is crazy. Moving games is a pain especially if there is not a big attachment to them.

Seems that a guy buying a million dollar house wouldn't have trouble finding cash for games and pins.

Seems that a guy buying a million dollar house might have the common sense to not overpay for games and pins, either.

The guy sells his house for a million dollars and is worried about 2 machines? Good god..He should have just included them in the sale!!!!!

I dont even want to know what $1M buys you in Rapid City SD....!!!!!

As for the pin/game, your offer is fair. Keep your cash and buy what you want. Dont overpay especially if they are for games that arent super excited about to begin with (not sure if you are or arent)...

If you separate the fact that the guy just gave him 1 mill for the house...4K is not a fair offer for a the Spider Man on it's own. It's probably 2k+ on the low side.

I'm no expert on pin pricing so I'd really recommend going to Pinside to look for a proper valuation of it (condition factors in heavily).

$450 seems about right for the GT.

You might want to check out the new vault edition SM that just came out. It has comic art from the Ultimate Spider Man Comic...not my cup of tea, but a lot of guys like it. It has a MSRP or $7595 but I think they are actually selling for 7K ish.

With that said...the seller should have included the games with the house.

Spent all my summers in Rapid and my parents live there. I am guessing you got acreage (40?) in that purchase.

Good luck with purchase. I know there a number of collectors up there. I got a few good deals from a dealer in Mitchell.

He probably doesn't want to pay 6% of the cost of the machines to the realtors. You could leave it in, but then you need an exception to the contract for the realtor fees. It is easier to just do the deal on the side. Not to mention he has to then also adjust the cost basis for the sale of the house to include the cost of purchasing the machines to offset the additional income he got on it.

True, but there are limits on what my wife will let me spend on them.

I really want the Golden Tee. I don't know the Spider-Man pin all that well but I want more pins and it seems pretty good. The real factor is that they are already just there. Honestly, the transport and moving of the machines is a hassle and it is nice that they are already there. Thanks for the Pinside tip. I am newer to this hobby and need all of the help I can get.

Actually, it is only 5 acres but in one of the nicest neighborhoods. It has tremendous views and the house is amazing with 10,000 sqft, all brick, a pool, etc. I actually got the house for a steal.

I think this is exactly part of the reasoning. I am sure we will come to an agreement. The seller is in a tough place with both finances and health problems in the family and he just gave me a great deal on his house so I don't want to rip him off. I will pay what they are worth and that is why I was asking.

Heh. I think the 1,100 square feet my house has is the size of your second bathroom. lol. :D

Golden Tee is fun, but those dedicated cabinets are very heavy. You'll be doing him a favor if you buy it so he doesn't have to move it.

If he gave you a good deal on the house and he's in a tough place financially and you feel like being nice, offer him $500-600 for the Golden Tee. That's a bit too high but it's a game you want and like you said, it's already in the house, so the hassle of going out and finding another one and moving it into your new house can be folded into the price.

It may be that when he's thinking $7500 for both, he's thinking $5500 for the pin and $2k for the GT... if he bought them fairly new that's probably about what he paid. The pin has probably gone up in value and the arcade game has gone down. You could always offer $6500 for both and then sell the pin down the road and get most of that back.
