Hey guys. What would you do in my situation? I had a D9200 chassis that I bought on Ebay. After I received it, I discovered that it wouldn't work for my application, so I resold it On Ebay. It was advertised as "working" and shipped out that way. When the buyer received it, he had a 'technician' look at it and he claims there were some burnt up components and he advised against even using it at all. The buyer heeded his advice and issued a Paypal claim and wanted a refund. Here is what he said...

"The chassis board appears to have burned componits on it that was not in the ebay discription. Would not have bought this item if this detail was in the listing. My tech says it is not wise to install the chassis with the 2 areas haaving signs of burnt componits. I will return the item for a refund. As soon as I am instucted to return the item thru paypal."

The chassis worked 100% and if it had burnt up components, it would not have been sold, nor would I have advertised it to be in working order. I denied his refund and this was my response...

"The chassis was advertised as working. That is the way you received it. There was no mention of burnt components because there weren't any that I saw. There were black marks, but the components weren't bad. If they were, then the chassis, wouldn't work."

I mentioned in the item description of the auction that NO WARRANTY was implied because I can not be there when you install it. I doubt if he even hooked it up to see if it worked. He is asking for a refund based on the opinion of a technician. Is a refund warranted?

If you put no warranty/as is in the auction, you're in the clear as to getting the wording right. No way to know if he tried it and burned something out before he called the tech, unless he has some tech on retainer who shows up every time he gets something new or some nonsense. As far as paypal goes, they'll see he recieved something and tell him to go pound sand, so you shouldn't have to worry about them too much either.

My tech says your water pump is bad. He has been working on video games all his life.

No refund, unless stated in the auction. Buyer's remorse doesn't cut it in my book.

Your bases are covered. ;)

...and they all belong to us, for that matter.

...just for S&G, though, what's the eBay auction URL, just so we can look at it...

Electronic parts plain and simple no refund. When it's in their hand you have no control over what they have done.
I always cringe when I hear the words "My Technician" just my opinion.

Wow. Yeah, it looks like you went out of your way to warn...

Where did he say the burnt parts are? I bet you can zoom in on your chassis pic and compare...

However you did promise that it would arrive in working condition barring any shipping issues.
Just pointing this out.
there is something fishy about burnt components.

Well, there was only one that I ever saw and the resistors were not blown where the black area was. Someone at some point before me replaced them and never cleaned the scorth marks off the board. I reiterate..if there were bad components on the chassis, then it wouldn't work. I don't think he even tried to hook it up to anything. He had a guy tell him that he shouldn't use it, so he went right to asking for a refund.

It worked fine when it left me as you could see from the pics, and I doubt components can blow during shipping.

Based on your ebay ad, I'd say you're fine. Honestly, if he had more feedback you might be able to work with him... or if he had good standing elsewhere (i.e. Klov)... but I wouldn't trust anyone with 10.

If he didn't even try to fire it up, what are his grounds for a claim? Unless he's going to try shipping HIS bad one back to you and use yours. Unfortunately with Ebay and Paypal he probably has you by the nads. Good luck!

Could this be a.. "Whoa.. my tech just blew the shit out of it... you need to replace it" ?

I would think your very clear instructions and description, even including "No warranty can be offered" would be enough for the buyer to understand no refunds, no returns.
