There seem to be some listings on ebay of B&K and Heathkit rejuvinators that "power up" but are "untested". Seeing as I can't seem to win a 'tested' one that fits my budget, it makes me wonder if I should roll the dice on these 'untested' ones.

Anyone have an opinion on this?

Maybe its a silly question and is the same as rolling the dice on untested PCBs...you just don't know what you are going to get...

Well, the B&K models have a calibration procedure in the manual. I doubt the seller will be willing to test it but you could after winning. Of course, I don't mind gambling on untested boards either...

I got a working one for 50 and was stated as such. Just keep your eyes peeled thier a popular item all of the sudden. Might have somthing to do with all these rejuvenating threads lol.

Most of the time an "untested" one is simply because the seller either has no tubes to test or simply does not know how to use it (typically from an estate sale).

Many times a "non-working" B&K 467 is simply from bad solder joints. In particular, right at the flat white Molex connector pins going to the pushbutton switch assembly or at the rotary switch. Once in a great while the tube (yes it has a tube inside it) or an electrolytic capacitor might be bad.

I just sent a copy of the B&K model 467 SERVICE manual to be posted at Michael Roma's site. The service manual should be used in conjunction with the owner's manual. Service manual details disassembly of the unit and calibration using commonly available items.

I fall under this category as well... I have a Heathkit that I was planning on selling, but will have to list it as "powers up but otherwise untested" since I don't have the correct adapter for it that matches my tubes. :(

I bought 2 B&K 470 units as a package deal when I picked mine up. One was working and the other wasn't.

The one that was dead would light up VERY bright and blow fuses. Turned out to be a leaking diode. One $.89 part later and it was good to go. I kept the one that looked better plus one of every adapter then sold the other one for the money I paid for the pair.

:D

Don't be afraid to get a broken one. As long as the switches are OK then you are fine. It's pretty rare for a switch to go bad on one, you'll most likely find a shorted diode.

I just bought an untested except for being powered on B&K 470 on ebay. I was outbid on two prior and got the third for less than $50 shipped. I figure I need one since I plan on staying permanently away from LCDs :)
