poor Ms Pac was never the same after the stroke :(

hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.jpg

Must have been kept in a cave, away from sunlight. It still surprises me with the pink not being oxidized away.

What are you implying (with the Ha!)? That this isn't original?

I love the side art on this, it's like Ms. Pac-Man's older sister and her special-ed ghosts.

Yeah, it's early here on the West coast and I'm no expert....but right off the back......it would seem that the OP is referring to the non original looking marquee and the dark magenta pink color tone of the artwork on the sides and the stripe on the kick plate......looks suspicious. Again it's early over here and I'm hoping someone chimes in with more knowledge.....I'm guessing the Unrestored Ha? comment in the title is the OPs reference to sarcasm.......or like saying " yeah right"

Yeah, even the shape of Ms. Pac Man on the side art isn't correct. She is circular on the original game and she has a pointed flair out under her right hand on that art. That marquee is straight up awful. The original is much different in look, plus it is missing the Midway & Bally logos. The control panel overlay looks repro too with those thick black lines, looks like a two-bits repro. The cabinet art and marquee are definitely reproductions and bad ones at that. I wish his pictures showed the inside of the game, it's probably running a 60 in 1 board. Must be someone who bought it second hand for a pretty penny that was told it was original and was taken for a ride.

Thanks. I guess I looked more from the oxidation perspective than the literal "art" perspective. Now that I've looked around, I can see some of the differences you mentioned.

To be fair, you get very different appearance of the colors, depending on the light and camera. I had real problems with that, taking pictures of the restore I did. However, the actual graphics are just wrong.

Their marquee...

A real, original Ms Pac Marquee...

Look at how bad the ghosts are on the kick-panel...
I'm curious how all the artwork got to be this far off. Is this whole cabinet a knock-off?

I would guess it's a bootleg from the late 90's when the home game market went through the roof and everything was worth a small fortune. If you look the front art isn't centered either, it could be a decaled over original cabinet but it's probably all new... you could probably tell by an interior shot, they never made the interiors anything like the originals because nobody could even see it.

The ghost itself I assume appears as horrified as it is, not because of what Ms Pac will do to him. But what she has already done to herself

Was there a factory speed up chip? I don't know anything about Ms. Pac cabinets.

Nope... there wasn't. Some of the multigames Namco put out much later added it as an option in the menu, but there was no official solution back in the day.

So that's BS too then.

Correct... though I wonder if it hints at the real origin of this cab.
I could see him buying this thinking it was new/original/etc... it could very well be the cabinet's original art, and have the chip from the board out of the gate, if it's all a bootleg. Which seems the most likely at this point. He probably just doesn't realize it's not authentic. I have a multigame in a bootleg Ms Pac Man cabinet, for instance, and it still looks spotless 15+ years later since it was made with vinyl instead of that fading paint the original units have... mine just happens to have basically accurate art :p
