Unofficial Pi Position Q&A & Support Thread

I get nothing when I power up.

I've had it a year and just got back to working on my pp1 cab. My pp1 board boots and plays with a gas/brake issue. The ar2s are good with 5.1vdc and new big blues. Harness is original and contacts clean.

Yesterday j tried it for the first time. The screen was blank. On the 3rd try I got a weird screen. 4th try i got the the arcade Jason no roms message so that's where j stopped. Today i put the SD in with the roms and i get nothing. Just a blank screen.... red lights are on on the pi and small ice on the opposite side but nothing else. Monitor is good.

Has anyone had the same issue? Any solution?

I have a hanterex monitor in it. I'll try a wg.

In continuation to my previous post.

Has anyone seen this screen? I got this once and couldn't go further. Then the no rom message after I rebooted it. Now nothing.

Looks like linux bootup messages, may see if can connect to a computer monitor via hdmi to see the full text for troubleshooting.

So I read the top post FAQ and noted the ROMset they used. Just go here and download the pole position ROMs.

I see above that links will not be provided so just google "MAME romset 0.185 merged"

Download polepos.zip and polepos2.zip

Put those 2 files in your ROM folder and you are good to go!
Worked perfectly. I had no idea you could get single roms this way. Thanks for sharing this. It sure beats downloading whole romsets to get a rom or two.

Yes, I bought a 64gb card. No changed. At this point, I boxed up the project and put the PP 2 board back in. Really disappointed with this... Tried other USB ports and cables, no luck.
Ok, I sent the board, pi , usb cable and sd card to Jason to test. Turns out the issue was the usb cable. Apparently you need to use a usb cable that is for data transfer and not for charging only. I didn't know there was a difference. This is all new to me. But if you have an issue with no steering, no pedal, no shifter and no coin up its the cable. Problem solved!

I have a PP2 cab that the wiring is a mess in. I'll need to build new edge connectors. Has it been documented anywhere exactly what the pinout is of the PiPosition board? I'm pretty certain all the lines aren't needed for the PiPosition.

Thanks!

It is the exact same as the Pole Position board.

I guess I wasn't very clear with my question. Is there a pinout for the PiPosition board? I don't want to wire up a bunch of wires that are redundant or not even used if I don't need to when I'm rebuilding this harness / edge connectors.

For example on the PP 30 pin connector does PiPosition really want all 500 grounds hooked up?

Thank you for your link / answer though, I do appreciate it.

Did you happen to buy the working cable from Amazon or someplace online? I've tried 4 different cables with no luck.

Good info. I just ordered this cable:
Hopefully the 6th try is a charm.
According to the pictures that cable will work.

A real easy test if you have an old cellphone with that usb connection is use that cable to plug the phone into a pc. If it wants to share files it's good, if it just charges it's wrong.

Same results. I have steering but no accelerator. I'm going to yank out the pedal tonight and see if it's the issue with the pot needing to be would the opposite direction. I can't imagine that cable wouldn't work.

Fixed. I pulled out the accelerator and was able to get gas by manually turning the pot. I re-adjusted the cable to reflect where PiPosition wanted the pot to be and the game is working. Now I just have to change settings to get the speed over 140mph.

Hi, i got mine today in germany - cant wait to put it in my sitdown.

are there any info which other racing games are compatible with it ?

Has anyone tried to connect their Pi Position to a LCD monitor? I need some help troubleshooting. I can't get an image on the LCD monitor despite changing the config file settings to output through the HDMI port, using a proven hdmi/vga converter, and connecting to the LCD monitor via VGA.

My friend has an arcade grade LCD monitor in her Pole Position and is asking for me to install a Pi Position in her machine as her original boardset doesn't work consistently. I'm testing one of my working Pi Positions at home connecting it to an LCD computer monitor via HDMI output and a HMDI/VGA converter cable, but am not able to get the Pi Position to display on the monitor with the config text file settings as follows:

# uncomment if hdmi display is not detected and composite is being output
hdmi_force_hotplug=1

# uncomment to force a specific HDMI mode (this will force VGA)
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=16

# uncomment to force a HDMI mode rather than DVI. This can make audio work in
# DMT (computer monitor) modes
hdmi_drive=2

Is there something else that I'm missing? Another config change needed?
