Will this work with a rPI 4? If not I'll hold out for a bit to see when rPI 3b+ come back in stock (mid 2022), dont feel like paying $100 for a rPI 3 when I have a couple 4's already.

the reason it will not work on the rpi4 is because of a glitch in the usb polling speed. in other words steering will not work some day it might be addressed at the time i didn't care because the pi3b was cheaperWill this work with a rPI 4? If you figure this out can you give some detailed instructions? I am line of code dumb.yes you can a line of code needs to be omitted i honestly forget where though lol. you can read the files on the sd card with notepad and the file explains how.
I updated it with the newer image file earlier... how do i just update firmware?did you try the firmware update? https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1wCV15Ue3ZL4AAN9XVKZOpcveUCth534t?usp=sharing

Since my coin mechanisms have been taken. I installed the coin switch but I can't get the game to coin up. Can this be set to free play? Or is there something I may have done wrong? So far game boots and I can switch back and forth fromPP1 and PP2. Help! Now that the first run of Pi Position boards are arriving, this thread can be used for support. Refer to video below for introduction and features. Suggestions are welcome for opening post (note that current forum software limits post editing to only 90 days).
FAQ
Is Pi Position FPGA or MAME?
Pi Position is not FPGA. Pi Position is powered by a Raspberry Pi 3 and MAME. Any inaccuracies in MAME will be carried over.
Do I need a separate power supply?
Pi Position is completely PnP and utilizes the stock AR-IIs. A separate power supply is not required.
How can I place an order for Pi Position?
See following thread: https://forums.arcade-museum.com/threads/new-pole-position-pcb-replacement.468682
Can I switch between my original Pole Position 1/2 PCB and Pi Position?
Forum member @VectorCollector offers a Pole Position 2:1 Switcher/Remote for this purpose: https://forums.arcade-museum.com/threads/new-design-atari-pole-position-2-1-switcher-remote.470261.
What's received in the Pi Position Kit?
(1) Pi Position PCB, (1) Steering Wheel Encoder PCB, (1) Pole Position keychain.
What games can be played on Pi Position?
Pi Position is intended for Pole Position and Pole Position 2. Other games can be added, depending on controls.
What games other than Pole Position 1/2 can be added?
A list will be compiled as games are verified.
Can I play other driving games in Pi Position?
Possibly, verified list coming soon. Games require a 360-degree wheel and foot pedal should work, unofficial list is here: https://forums.arcade-museum.com/th...on-pcb-replacement.468682/page-9#post-4221102.
Is Pi Position Plug and Play?
Pi Position is PnP for Atari cabinets only. Namco versions have a different pinout.
What MAME version is used for Pi Position?
AdvanceMAME (based on MAME 0.106, unverified)
Can High Scores be posted online?
Pole Position games featured hiscore saving via nvram which in mame is implemented as a file that it saves the memory contents to every now and then (not real time unfortunately). Pi Position has a small script that can parse that file and display the scores in a webbrowser if networking is enabled. It doesn't send the scores anywhere and is only accessible on your home network. It does serve the scores in json format though so everyone's free to pull the scores to their PCs and make excel spreadsheet diagrams or something if so inclined.
If scores from both games are found on SD card by default browser switches between the two every 5sec or so but it can be locked to a game. By default the system doesn't have networking enabled. Reasoning was that not everyone wants it, it takes couple seconds extra time during boot, and original cab didn't have networking either. Networking is enabled by uncommenting "ENABLE_NET" flag in sdcard's arcpi-config.txt (by removing #-character on that line), for wired ethernet connection nothing else is needed. For WiFi there's additional config file to fill your access point info. It should then be reachable as http://arcpi/ on any web browser that's connected to the same network (or by IP address it's more limited router setup).

Who's involved with the Pi Position project?
Jason Kopp (hardware)
David Galloway (wrote the first iteration of code for the micro controller)
Thomas Christy (wrote the code that allows the gpio to talk to the video dacs)
Samuli Toumola (wrote custom mame code to fix the shifter and completely changed the way mame saves high scores and much more)
Troubleshooting
A replacement steering wheel encoder was shipped with my Pi Position. Do I need it?
Some Pole Position cabinets have a different encoder PCB, which may or may not work with Pi Position. This is a 50/50 chance it will need to be replaced, more info on video @ 15:46
My accelerator pedal is working backwards
Accelerator post is wired backwards from factory or cable is backwards. See video at 22:38. Alternatively, you can swap the red and black wires on the accelerator potentiometer .
My steering wheel moves in opposite directions (right is left, left is right)
See video at 23.53
Car screeching/skidding sound is off in PP1.
Known issue. The sample used in MAME is of poor quality, this may be fixed later.
My top speed doesn't reach 244mph.
Verify your DIP switch settings in MAME.
No ROMs came with the Pi Position? Where can I find them?
MAME romset 0.185 merged is recommended. For legal reasons, ROMs are not included with the Pi Position nor links/discussions to ROMsets will be provided.
Roms have been loadded into the SD folder, but I still get the "Sad Jason" missing ROMs screen. What's wrong?
AdvanceMAME seems to be picky about filenames, looking for polepos.zip and polepos2.zip. Renaming the files seemed to get things going. Maybe the MAME experts can chime in and explain in detail.

Just about ready to jump into this project after receiving the unit from arcadeshop (finding a pi wasn't fun but that's a different story, also a 16GB card isn't big enough for the unzipped 2021updaterev2 image, 32GB worked fine). Voltage on my AR2s is at 4.99 and I'm currently working on undoing my bulletproof mod so I can get this installed. Wish me luck!
OK, Jason said a 16g would be fine. However, when I use it I have no steering, pedal or shifter. I'm assuming the card was too small and all the software was not uploaded. I'll try the 32g card. Thanks for the heads up.Ordered a 16gb sd card for this and realized it was around 40mb too small for this image when I tried to write the img to it. Used a PiShrink program (https://github.com/Drewsif/PiShrink) and it reduced down to 2.89GB and it is supposed to expand to fill the partition on boot. Just a warning though I haven't tried it to make sure the shrunken version works as I'm waiting for a Pi 3b+ in the mail. The safe bet is to use a 32gb sd card instead of a 16gb card.

I purchased my board from Jason. I uploaded the software off the you tube page/link. When I unzipped the file it said a file was corrupt. I wrote the file to the sd card anyway and it said successful. I installed everything in the game and I have no steering, pedal or shifter. I can switch between games. I switched the pedal to reverse and I only have full throttle. I don't think the coin switch works either I had to set it to free play.Purchased a Pi Position via ArcadeShop and finally had some time to work with it last night.
Tried both the files posted in the YouTube link and the ones posted by linx310; but where I ended up was with steering but the gas/shifter not working. These both work with my PP1 board so I am hesitant to change too much around.
Also have some monitor issues, but those have been secondary to the control issues.
I am assuming that since I got my board from ArcadeShop that the firmware update shouldn't be a factor?
is there a trick to running the firmware update?... because It wont even verify the sketch without error for me currentlydid you try the firmware update? https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1wCV15Ue3ZL4AAN9XVKZOpcveUCth534t?usp=sharing
I haven't been able to do the firmware update also.is there a trick to running the firmware update?... because It wont even verify the sketch without error for me currently
I had a very similar experience with mine. I spent so much time trying to make this board work. Eventually, frustration got the better of me and wound up putting my original working board back in. Let us know if you figure this out.Got my Pi Position set up and running. After some monitor adjustments, it Played great for a while other than the foot pedal was "full-on" even if I just barely pushed it, so it was either stop or full throttle, not a huge deal because that is how I play anyway. Suddenly when I powered the game back on after being powered off for a while, it would no longer coin up when I put a coin in. When I dropped a coin in the coin slot on the machine coin drops into the coin bucket but doesn't register a credit. I finally went into settings and put it on free play just so I could play, but now no controls work. No steering or gas pedal. I just sit at the start line. Anyone have any ideas? All was working fine when I turned the machine off, then when I turned it back on no controls worked. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
I have run into the same scenario, I also have no steering, pedal or shifter. I can switch between games. I am able to switch the pedal to reverse which will give me only full throttle as actuating the peddle has no effect. The coin switch doesn't work for me either which is less of an issue for me as I prefer free play. @Salerno2442 - I may have missed this in the thread, had you tried to use the 32gb card?I purchased my board from Jason. Very frustrated ....
I have a working PP2 board and everything works when I use the original board.
I haven't received a response form Jason yet.
My next step is to try another USB cable, I have seen another person changed the USB port they were plugged into on the raspberry pi which helped them - this did not help me however, but it is easy enough to try - it might help you.I am having the same no inputs to the pi Position. I need to try a new usb cable but I have tried two already with no change. I also have not been able to get the Arduino to update.
