Unofficial Pi Position Q&A & Support Thread

Can someone copy the content from the pi micro card and place it on their google drive so I can download the content. Mine became corrupt. I have the right mame roms so I don't need that info...

This is what I messed up. Please help me change back to the correct values...

hello! My PiPosition gas pedal does not work unless there is a keyboard hooked up, and when it does, the car will only go (only!) like 100mph no matter whether it's in high or low. Any ideas?

There's no 100mph max in the DIP switch settings, which means the accelerator cable cable may need to be adjusted and value verified on TEST mode (ACCEL value needs to between 90-A0 with foot pressed down on pedal).

Pedal adjustment sheets included. TEST switch is selected on your maintenance panel behind the coin door.

Patched it to have a proper free play mode

Thats the money shot. Where can I find more details on the freeplay patch? Going to try to get my board installed this week and freeplay has got to happen. And does anyone have a list of other 360 wheel games that work without major modifications?

Hello,
Hoping someone on the forum may be able to assist. I tried reaching out to Jason and have not heard back, and I know he's a busy guy. Here's the bugs I've got:

1.)The gas pedal setting to reverse direction does not save, so every time we switch between I and II, or power cycle, we have to go back in to change it. Also, the setting is not synced between I and II either, which is part of the issue I believe. Upon powering it up, I is wrong, II is correct. Yesterday when I powered it up, I was correct and II was backwards. Changes to the DIP settings do seem to save so far.

2.)It does not save high scores. Is this what everyone else's does?

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Do we need different ROMs perhaps?

Thanks!

Since PiPosition is using MAME, changes are made per game. Changes made in one game are not carried over to another.

The config save states are related to MAME most likely, you would have to look through advanceMAME for troubleshooting. Jason would have to verify the version of advanceMAME used, but RPi support started in v3.0. Roms must be v0.106 as it's built around MAME 0.106, more info can be found here: https://www.advancemame.it

Mine did the EXACT same thing as your. I reversed the wires on the gas pedal pot and have not had any issues at all since then.
Switched the red and black wires on the pot and it worked! It did create other issues however. The max speed was reduced, and when I put my working original board set back in, the max speed was still limited, and the shifter was backwards (not sure why, seems unrelated). Tried improving max speed with my used/working pot and also an NOS pot I had laying around with same results. Also double checked cable winding a million times to make sure that wasn't the issue.

So I reversed the wires back to original state, and original works as it should with correct max speed and shifting. To use the Pi, I'll have to keep the wires as set, and manually change pedal direction in the menu each time I use the game. Frustrating bug that does not seem to be fixable as far as I can tell. I did reinstall and verify the recommended ROMS were being used. This is as reported for a cockpit game, for what its worth.

Thanks!

I have a Pole Position Cockpit and only needed to change the MAME setting in P1 Pedal 1.

When I get my PiPosition, I will be using the cockpit controls as well.

Duly noted...

I just wanted to post this in this thread as it may help someone somewhere sometime.

Original document from Atari. They even included the part needed as seen by the yellow tape at the bottom.

It's been on my site for a while now.
