Universal Zero Hour Restoration/Rebuild

Awesome job! What type of wood did you use? I just need a few pointers to get me started - my woodworking skills aren't good.

The middle section appears the most difficult to make.
The middle section is only tricky since there is a rectangle you need to cut out (for a hand hold) and then build a box for the back to glue around it. The cuts are easy. The clamping for glue might be tricky.

I'll post pics soon and can provide dimensions if you need them. Every cab is going to have some fit and finish issues so YMMV on the dimensions. Plus I measured them in inches when I probably should have used the metric system (these cabs are Japanese).

The wood I used was 1/2" thick Sande plywood (you can get it at Home Depot in 2 ft by 4 ft sheets). I bet others have other (better?) opinions. This is close enough for me for the back doors. Again, these cabs are Japanese and used some Japanese plywood I bet originally.

For the fixed middle piece of the door system, what are you going to use in place of the metal angled brackets that hold the screws?

I still have not forgotten about this.

Anyway first is a video I made about the back doors. I am not a professional YouTuber...

NOTE - I say 1" Sande Plywood in the video. I meant 1/2" Sande.
Other info in the description. I can provide more dimensions if you want. I probably should make a nice diagram.

Pics of the doors.

In addition to the doors, I had to build coin boxes for these. One of the coin boxes was missing. The other was DISGUSTING. A rat/mouse/?? lived in it and it was covered in feces and urine. Needless to say, it was not worth saving.

So here are two that I made. Not perfect, but good enough given my sub-par carpentry set up. Dimensions available. They do NOT have the slot in the middle that accepts the divider.

Yes, I also have a Space Panic (restored as well; not making a thread for that; hard enough to keep up with my other threads).

Here are some general pics. As you can see, the issue right now is that I am out of space and look like a hoarder. Fear not. All of these games will be moving soon to a "barncade" style building I am constructing in New Hampshire in late 2023.

So here is a list of some of the things I still need off the top of my head. Naturally contact me if you have a lead on these.

Galaxy Wars:
PCB
CPO
Instruction Card
Joystick
Lower Marquee
Light fixtures (I'd like original)

Zero Hour:
PCB
Transformer Assembly
Power Supply
Joystick

Zero Hour PCB and Power Supply found.

Galaxy Wars light fixtures were found (the older style Universal versions that are wooden).

Hopefully, the repo Universal joystick thread will yield something...

Making progress. Issue now is that the monitor (a P.E.I.C - Zero Hour manual has schematics) won't adjust so the width (vertical in this case) fills the screen. It makes it smaller but no wider when I adjust the pot.

More on the monitor here - https://forums.arcade-museum.com/threads/peic-space-panic-monitor.189102/

@HudsonArcade I am sure you have ideas.

I haven't checked for bad solder joints, pot,etc yet. Also I have not used this monitor before with another game

Checked the vertical-size pot. It is fine. Going to reflow some solder as well.

Love PEIC monitor picks (for jumper locations, external connections to monitor chassis and neckboard, etc.)

Artwork from This Old Game arrived. It took 2 years but it is beautiful.

If anyone has scans for the lower marquee on Galaxy Wars let me know.

Here are some pics. All I need now is to fix the monitor:(

When I am done I'll make a video to show it inside and out.
