So my OCB has been kicking lately. I bought up a bunch of Universal games and boards over the last 6-7 months. I actually have about half of the boards or games now. Next weekend I'll get back to plugging them in to verify what games actually play in what cabs. I also have a few games I need to pull the boards to get the chip #'s off of. If you have more board or chip info please let me know. I took a lot of picture Saturday of all my Universal boards. I'm going to send the photos to Crazy Kong to add to their collection of boards. I hope this helps you guys next time you need to know what game a Universal board is.

Sounds like a good way to blow up a lot of universal boards.

Other than then 8-10 games that have Mr. Do pinouts, most of the rest are unique.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that before. He's got a good list going too. I'll add his info with mine. Since several baords are indentified with the same #, for example 8003, we need to know the chip numbers to determine which game it actually is.

I printed out all the pinouts for Universal boards I could find and picked up boxes of old Universal and Centuri wiring harnesses. I hope to keep the blowing up boards to a minimum. Eldorado identified connectors for a lot of the games however I'm not sure their list is accurate and certainly not complete. My intention is to list out exactly what games have the same pinouts and test as many as I can to verify the information available. Eventually one complete Universal PCB list by board #, chip # and pinouts.

Old thread bump.......

Which Universal game had rom labels with "U" on it?

Looked all over, couldn't find anything. I have a dirty but in nice condition Universal pcb which I do not want to test until its clean. Was hoping one of you experts already know.

Its a Universal 8300 pcb, but under the pcb identification sites it comes up as Mr. Do's Castle, but all the Mr. Do's Castle pcbs I see have rom labels that start with "C".

U for Unicorns?

Japanese version of Mr Do's Castle?

I think you are right. Here, is a picture of a Mr. Do v Unicorns on eBay and I can make out 8300 and there are U marks on the roms.

Picked up another rare Technos/Universal pcb this past week.

Scramled Egg(Technos), or Eggs in the Universal version. I believe the pcbs look the same, but the codes are different. I have the Technos version. Tested working. Just had to change the caps in the sound section to get the sound working. Otherwise in great condition.

Cool game. :)

Since the thread's been resurrected...

For anyone tracking the Universal PCB numbers, you may also want to add Super Pierrot to that list. It was a 1987 re-release of 1984's Do! Run! Run! under a different name and with some graphics and minor gameplay changes. As far as I'm aware it was a Japan-only release, but a handful have surfaced in North America.

The MAME driver unfortunately doesn't have PCB info and about the best photo I could find of a PCB was here, which unfortunately doesn't give much detail. However, the MAME driver does at least show that the hardware was the same as used in Do! Run! Run!, so it does at least fit with the golden-era Universal releases. Chances are good that it was probably the last game released on that platform.
