I was just researching Mario Bros and found this game via Google. It is a DK/DK Jr/Mario Bros game. It was at the Disney Tomorrowland Arcade, according to the article. Has anyone seen others like this? This would be something I could get into.

I have one of these game boards, but it doesn't always work. Need to have it looked at by someone who knows more board repair than I...

Groff, thanks. Right after I posted I found one for sale from a dealer in Ft Lauderdale. Very pricey, of course, since it is new. Still looks like fun. A red DK might still be nicer though.

mod, where did you find the board?

My first impression is that is modern. Where are the rounded edges around the bezel?
The art looks modern, the original didn't even have kickplate art.
They could have gone with a traditional style door, not a Happ under-over door.

Very interesting, never seen or heard of one.

A very interesting early Nintendo arcade game is Sky Skipper. It must be incredibly rare, but check it out on MAME.

I played one in an arcade one of the last couple times I went to vegas. If I recall correctly it was in the arcade at Circus Circus.

I've played it. In my opinion, it sucks compared to the originals. First, they tried to mix two vertically oriented games (DK and DK Jr.) with a horizontally oriented game (Mario Bros.). So the aspect ratio is all out wack. Second, the joysticks are painful to play on and don't feel anywhere near as nice as real Nintendo joysticks. Last, no analog sounds, which is part of what makes those games so cool. It's pretty much just poor emulation.

Also, since real Nintendo cabinets are so standardized, you can buy a real DK cabinet and swap in DK Jr., DK 3. You can mount all three in cabinet and switch games by moving an edge connector harness from one pcb to the next. You can add the DKII kit to your DK PCB too. That way you get all 4 Donkey Kong games in one cab all with no emulation and real controls. If you rotate the monitor you can add Mario Bros, Popeye, and Vs. (Mario Bros and Vs. would require you to swap control panels, and also the wiring harness for the Vs system). That's a ton of games, with no emulation, all in one cab with the origninal PCBs and controls. Or, if you have the space you can do two cabs, one for the vertical (DK games) and one for the horizontal games. That way you never have to rotate the monitor.

WAYYYYY better.

I just read through the manual -- is it true that this version of Donkey Kong only has three screens, not four?

Thats good info, JamBurglar. Even though I must admit I like the art on the new game, I am not down with it not being the original games/sounds. Guess my quest to find a nice Nintendo cab to restore to red will continue. Oh, and the PCB's, too.

Did they fix the monitor since I was there 3 years ago?

The gameplay itself is spot on, but the original boards used analog sounds for some of the sounds, and they're hard to duplicate digitally. The bigger problem I had was the aspect ratio of the screen and the controls. My wrist was killing me after a 1/2 hour of Donkey Kong.

JamBurglar, I have a Jamma 60 in 1 to give me my fix until I can locate my old favorite cabs and restore them. Would I be correct in assuming the games on my 60 in 1 are exactly the same as this Nintendo "3 in 1?" I am kind of a stickler for things to be accurate. The fact that I'm even entertaining this game is something else.
