Long story short, we took our boat to the lake today, along the way there there was a house with a pinball machine on a trailer sitting outside. On the way back, just before dark, it was still outside. I mentioned stopping and seeing if it was destined for the dump and my wife gave me that look and said no way! I couldn't make out the title from the road, but it resembled an old em with a red and white striped cabinet. This could be a case of free giveaway to haul off, does anyone else get the same treatment? Sad thing is tomorrow's forecast has a chance of rain and our 9 year anniversary is in 4 days. Talk about a rock and a hard place, what would you guys do?

Sneak over there and see what the story is, then explain to her that it is a classic and should not be rained on or sitting in a dump.

It might work. :)

If it was an EM I wouldn't loose any sleep over it :)

ok, im not a big fan of em's......but theose em's were built better, and have a charm that is unique add in that they all had low production numbers

what you are essentially saying is.....who cares throw it away

an em is a part of americana, i have a 59 gottlieb its beautiful, i dont play it have never it plugged it in but i wouldnt want it destroyed

Go check out the story. Could be he's not getting rid of it so worries with your wife but at least you will have piece of mind.
Or he is selling/trashing/giving it away. Put it at a friend's house for a couple of weeks and deal with the repercussions later.
Either way, check it out.

Pretty much impossible to sneak over as we are both on vacation for the next week, so she will know my every move. I tried to go down the path of it being an antique, which she likes to collect antiques, but that didn't go over well. Even if it is an EM, I would hate to see it left sitting outside rotting.

Always remember tis better to do the deed and ask for forgiveness later...always works well for our addiction and the other half.

+1...........
+2.

My kitchen, for the last 10 months has always had either an upright, a cocktail, or a pinball machine in it, and any assortment of parts.

I'll keep the kitchen clean and clear enough to cook, and if guests are coming, I will put it all back together that day, to make sure there's nothing looking cluttered or anything. The trip down to the basement is 15 steep steps, bare wood, no dolly... not moving stuff down there on my own, LOL!

I'm super lucky that, despite my girlfriend not being interested in my hobby, at least she understands that it keeps me out of trouble. If we can afford parts or machines, then she gives me the nod, so I -really- can't complain a whole bunch. She tries to be interested in what I'm doing, and I for sure get carried away with explaining stuff some (MOST) of the time...

All that being said, GO FOR IT. If it's free, it's not hurting anyone. It may not even be for sale, who knows? At the very least take a drive out and see if it's still there. Maybe you won't get it, maybe you will and it will need tons of TLC.

Worst case scenario: not for sale.
Better Scenario: You get it, throw it in storage for a bit until you get time to work on it.

Just don't turn into a pinball hoarder! If you start building up "rainy day" projects, share the love, and give one away to a "Free pin plz" poster :D

At what point does a man or for that matter a woman run the house and have ultimate say so?

I'm a huge supporter of marriage but when one party decides that the other party cannot do something that will not harm anyone, will not take food off the table, will not take roof off over your head and will not take clothes off your back then there is a problem. It's BS that your wife is doing this to you. If you want it and it won;t cause any financial hardships go get the pin and tell her to shut her yap because she's being a selfish and UNREASONABLE turd. You work for a living and bring a paycheck home don;t ya? Then that gives you every right to go and buy something that makes you happy. Isn't that what we ultimately work for? To buy things that make us happy? Go get it and refer back to the red section.

plus 100000000000000

my wife protested when i was leaving for mesquite sa last month(we had already talked about it) ......told her i respected her opinion but i was going anyway

The last 5 games have been against her wishes. Her point is why collect more when you don't have room for what you have. I don't want to hoard every game I see, but in this case it was more about possibly saving a game from the dump that could be passed on to someone else.
We might be heading back to the area where I saw the machine, but chances are IF it is still there, the 2 1/2 inches of rain since then has probably ruined it.
