Underground Retrocade in Dundee, IL - any good?

As I recall there are two retro arcades around there - that one, and the one in Lake in the Hills - No Limit Arcade. No Limit has about 20% classic games and the rest are newer games from the 1990s/2000s and some pinballs. The guy there is really cool and he can show you their warehouse which has a bunch of pins and other games. That's the one I've been to.

Underground retrocade is all older games, about 40 total, and maybe 1 older pinball machine. Mostly just the common classics, and maybe 1 or 2 vectors. From what I've heard it's rare for them all to be working at once.

I don't think you can go wrong with either, and if you havet the time hit both. The North Side now also has at least two barcades if you want to go down there.

Thanks. The one in lake in the hills doesn't look too hot. Might check out the Dundee one.

For sure doing Emporium in Wicker Park.

Just the facts, man!

Jon, if you visited us at the Underground and had a negative experience, I'd welcome the info so we can correct the problem.

You can follow our playable titles here:http://aurcade.com/locations/view.aspx?id=1397

As you can see, we have 62 machines, 3 of which are presently under repair. We also have a bullpen of a half dozen projects (Outrun, Tapper and Spy Hunter to name a few) which aren't on the floor and we don't include in that inventory because they're not restored. We actually have several vectors, including Tempest, Space Duel, and the very rare Space War. We do only have 1 pinball, Space Shuttle (Williams, 1984), but are actively seeking more. Our mix is classics-heavy because that's our intended focus, but we do have a few titles unique to our arcade: Super-spacefortress Macross and Super Dodgeball.

I hope you'll give us a try!

Blkdog, I hope you'll consider yourself personally invited to check us both out. Mark's No Limits has a wider base of more current machines, a great assortment of pins, and a cool pop shot basketball game. He also has some very cool classics, several of which I hope he'll sell to me! I've been in there myself to play his rare Disks of Tron and Race Drivin' machines.

At the Underground, we're very classics focused, specializing in the 77-84 range. We do everything we can to ensure you'll enjoy your visit. We even have an "unofficial" Fix it Felix Jr cabinet from Disney's Wreck it Ralph. If you grew up in the arcades of the early 80's we hope you'll be transported back FROM the future and, for a few hours at least, are able to enjoy a visit to your childhood!

If you're looking for a hipster hangout, I'd certainly encourage you to try Emporium or the new Headquarters barcades. But, I personally like to keep my adult beverages and those that enthusiastically enjoy them separate from my arcade classics. That's why we don't serve at the Underground, and reserve the right to refuse service to anyone abusing the machines. Arcades went away once - we're here to keep that from happening again.

When you visit, please introduce yourself at the front desk so we can welcome you as an esteemed KLOV member and new-old friend!
