Man oh man are Pole Position under rated. Well, to be fair, Pole Position 2's are under rated. I've had mine up for a little over a week now and I can stop playing. I have to pry my hands off the wheel each time because I wanna go "just one more race". Sure the graphics, while ground breaking for the time, aren't that great compared to todays standards, but man, the game just draws you in. Having probably only dropped a couple bucks in to Pole Position as a kid, I didn't have much appreciation for the game prior to getting it up and going.

I was wrong.

Pole Position (2) ROCKS!

I agree FF I had an upright PP and I loved that for sure just like the old days in the pizza huts arcade. Well later I sold it to get a cockpit PPII, and that was of course great. In the end its a great game that does suck you right in and then you realize you have played it for a while trying to better your track speed or position every time. I want to again own one.

I have a nice cockpit in storage and waiting to bring it home as soon as I have room. You are right I love that game. I am not into the newer sitdown driving games but I like the old ones.

I don't think I would go as far as saying pole position is under rated classic. I think most none arcade people if shown the cabinet and game would recognize the game.

They recently made pole position for the iphone and those jakks games.

I would love a pole position but i get scared when everyone says they are a nightmare to keep running. That and the only one local to me that works the guy is asking 550 CAD for.

I would drop 550 for a pole position in a second if a fpga pole position was going to be coming out. fo sho

Bah... Pole Position's get their bad rep mostly due to power issues. The power lines should have been a dedicated molex connector wired directly to both the CPU and VIDEO boards.

Pull the +5 off the harness and run a dedicated +5 line from a switcher to both CPU and VID boards, making sure to wire from lug to lug... and do the same for the GND and you're golden. Make sure to add in a molex connector or something similar so you can pull the boards easy.

Spoonman: I had the two diff PP's and even in diff cabs and never had an issue at all, hell Gibbious (err spelling) might still have the cockpit one. The cockpits are so sweet with the surround sound.

Okay well I will start saving my pennies for a PP now then. Maybe I will pick one up next spring. I need to space out my games I just grabbed another pin last month and with a baby on the way time to slow my roll or suffer the wrath of the wife.

The game would be better if the cars were not apparently carrying high explosives wired to go off at the slightest touch. A Butterfly could not land upon one of those cars without it going up like Three Mile Island.

Well for every opinion, there's a counter opinion. I hate Pole Position. Lame. Boring. Yeah, maybe it was one of the first driving games, but so what? There's about a 187154837456 driving games out there.

The absolutely only reason I'd ever even consider owning a Pole Position is if I got it free or really cheap and I know I could flip it for a few bucks. The best thing about a Pole Postion game is if the monitor doesn't have any burn in and you can pull it and use it in a good game.

If it at least had some vector cows like Speed Freak...

PPII is freakin hard compared to PPI... the same track obviously...

PPI I can post some nice times.. (per our past high score run/contest here, and then Richie spanked me..)

I have the sitdown... I dont think I ever played a stand up.. dunno if maybe I would be better standing vs sitting...

I still have an extra fully working service PPII board.... hint :)

My PP is played constantly at my parties. I love it. I played a PP2 cockpit a few months ago and that was really cool, too. The games are ancient compared to some of the new stuff(a friend of mine has a San Fran Rush, that is really fun!) but they do draw you in and are still fun to play IMO.

So.....when are you selling out, errrr um I mean selling it?

man, didn't even have to hack this one. just kidding, gorfchamp. gotta admit, never really played much pole position, though, mostly cause i hardly ever see them in any arcades. mostly just played the crap out of pole position on my old atari 5200.

I dropped PP back in the cab today to test the high score memory IC I picked up (works great!) and was surprised at how slow the game runs compared to PPII. I played 3 or 4 games, got Pole Position in all of them... then promptly decided to drop PPII back in.

Is there a way to speed up PP?

The best thing about Pole Position is this ...

"Prepare to Qualify"

After that, it's all downhill ... give me Sega Turbo anyday over Pole Position.

I always thought the best part of the game was when the driver stopped the car, reached around into the backseat and smacked you for saying something so foolhardy.
