This thread is pretty good proof of how divisive this subject is and justifies the ban, in my opinion. i have one of his yokes with no plans to use it, so this makes it more difficult for me personally, but I wouldn't argue the wisdom of the decision. I was a c@nt hair away from being one of the scammed, so I get it... Not even really sure why I originally ordered it; I like the game but don't love it's replay value (personally); I lose interest after the first death star explosion...

I just want to say... I am working my ass off

(where working my ass off largely involves funding projects or finding vendors who can make things)

to buy, make or have made reproductions of everything that goes into an I, Robot except the monitor. FPGA board, new sticks, control panels, harness, metal parts, cabs, art work, everything. (Don't get too excited, this project has 2 years left at least.)

Among other things I bought an entire I, Robot and shipped it to markrl so he could dissect it and start making stuff.

Sincere question: How do I make sure I don't get RAM-roaded as these things start coming out?

Again... love you guys, but I'm worried we see RAM-controls in every dark hallway.

This should get interesting, considering Tombo has made several comments on here that he thinks/suspects Markrl is RAM...

I've been told he's not Adam. I thought Markl might be Dan/fizgig and he's not him either.

It's got to suck to be Adam or Jan Judd and be damn near invisible online.

Great so it's starting already? ;-)

markl is not RAM. markrl is half-man, half-machine; but he is not RAM controls.

I've spent hours talking with Mark, I've bought multiple games from Mark. Mark has done multiple projects for me.

I have a good arcade friend that knows Mark longer than I and has been to his shop. Maybe he'll comment too.

I consider Mark a friend - even though I haven't met him in person yet.

Markrl is not Ram controls, I talk to Mark fairly regularly. The Guy is an expert arcade cabinet builder!! He also has good resources in making a wide array of repro parts... Great Guy!! And yes his name is Mark. :) He is not FizGig(Dan) either, met FizGig before at his arcade warehouse.

I can also 100% verify this. I have been to Mark's house and met him in person to pick up and drop off games, he's definitely not RAM, his name really is Mark, and he's a good guy.

Completely agree....who cares about specific parts or where they came from if they work...just don't do business with THE PERSON and everything will be fine.

Weren't acting as if these RAM parts are "dark arts" relics with mythical apocolyptic powers if you come in contact with them - beware! It's laughable. Just. Don't. Do. Business. With. The. Guy.

Parts are parts.

I understand Tombo's position (I think):

1. Any time RAM-Controls parts show up, there is a high chance Adam is behind them in some way. Either behind a fake "identity" or a "proxy" - as he's done both before.

2. It's very hard for us to tell when RAM-controls parts are from #1 above or some other source.

3. Even if they are from another source, their is a good chance they are effectively (even if unknowingly) stolen parts that should have ended up in the hands of people here who paid for them.

All three of these are entirely realistic possibilities - especially when you consider the difficulty any administrator faces trying to be justice-of-the-peace in a community like this.

I run (own? tolerate? I don't even know the right word at this point) a community forum, chat room, and reverse-engineered-game-server for 10,000+ active players of an RTS PC game that came out over 10 years ago. We have single users who we've had to ban almost over 100 times. *100 times*. How do you even want to invest that much of your life into fighting a ban? But they do it. Before this project I had no idea how much work and lack of thanks comes with the territory.

So on one hand, let me be clear: Hats off to Tombo, thank you for your hard work, and I totally understand why you have to draw a line in sand - sand that's hidden behind a one way mirror while you wear an eye mask and have one of your hands glued to the floor.

On the other hand - this history is causing real perception problems for people like markrl (as we've seen mentioned in this thread), and for, I believe, some of the outsiders who show up here every now and then with crazy achievements, ideas, or things that smell vauguely-RAMish. Lots of things will smell this way because, fundamentally, RAM was playing to our desire for highly required solutions. Desires which many of us still have - and at least a few of us still want to conquer. In doing so, we can't avoid smelling a bit like RAM.

As I joked in a prior message - some of us are seeing RAM-controls everywhere. That's the worst of RAM-scam. It's not serious like 9/11, but it is at least our 8/10. We've never been quite the same. We're a more suspicious community; more guarded; and a bit harder to get into or along with. Screw you very much, Adam and RAM Controls, because:

If I was the guy that showed up this week, perhaps unintentionally having stumbled into and worked to build something out of some NORS (New-Old-Ram-Stuff), perhaps having no idea who RAM even was? Boy would I be pissed.

If I was markrl and people thought maybe I was RAM because I was kicking ass by doing one of the fundamental things RAM was - creating new parts for highly desired games? Boy would I be pissed off.

If someone starts wondering if I'm Adam or his front-man when my stuff comes out? I'll be pissed too.

But at least I've got a new domain to address any fears. So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

PS: Apologies for the joke-domain around a sensitive subject.

PPS: We really should figure out how to handle the perceived misfits better and move past RAM controls. I think we'd be better off.

PPPS: I won't bring it up again.

Wish you all would've listened to me way back when. I think it started in 2004 Ram Controls contacted me about buying a game. Then it became 2 games. I held them for him even when other buyers surfaced. Deposits never showed. Crazy ass stories he would write me full of excuses begging for one more day, week, month...

Then he wanted me to make a run of MH art; cpo, marquee, side art because he was going to make a full production run of the entire game. Every piece would be new! And some custom versions too. I started to work on it but again those deposits never showed. More crazy ass stories kept coming through. Then he asked to borrow money to get his business going. Yet he bragged how wealthy he and his father were.

None of this was adding up. There's a lot of lawyers in my family so I had my sister do a little research on him. Well let's just say Dave was totally full of shit on basically everything. Fake business addresses, emails, phone numbers, photoshopped pics, overseas businesses that didn't exist, a house in foreclosure he and his father were tossed from. The list goes on and on.

So as often as I could when I seen his posts I would warn people. Yet I caught a lot of shit for it from so many people on here. And from some well known guys that are still around. All because they sold out and accepted free parts or very one-sided deals to buy silence or to post and say how great he is. Yeah, go ahead and search the history on here and you'll see me going after him and getting shit on. But shame on you who lined up like sheep back then. It could have all been stopped and saved many people lost money and headaches.

Tombo can tell you how many times I PM'd him to shut down RAM from posting. Now you know why when I see SW cockpit art not getting made for 7 years I get pissy about it.

We have a lot of talented and resourceful people in here. I would be willing to partner with one or multiple people to see these parts get made and work properly and we can possibly eliminate the RAM controls parts issues. People would be buying from reputable sources. If this interests any of you please email me and let's get this done.

Thanks Darin for everything you do for the community, and to the rest of the top-notch vendors as well.

As for arcade parts....if you have em - use em. Get your machines working.

If you have em and don't need em - sell em. (I guess somewhere besides here). Help get other people's machines working.

If your an Admin. sorry for all the toil and hard work....and that you are forced to be an Admin. In the good old days it used to be voluntary work.

Under no circumstances will any RAM Controls parts be allowed for sale here.

I found this thread as a sticky in the parts for sale section. I figured if anybody was going to Sale them and didn't see this hot mess at the very top, then dam.

So, what was he like in person? Total sociopath? Charming?

I just don't understand what his end game was. Typically a scammer doesn't go in and out of what seemed like genuine effort or interest in a hobby. His buddy who probably got the parts reproduced had genuine experience and probably could have had things reproduced for profit, for a longer run, and made something out of it. It just seems like the stupid criminal thing.

RAM Controls did what no one at the time was doing - working on reproducing desirable, and hard to find Atari parts. They definitely got everyone's attention. Had they done right and run their business i.e. Phoenix Arcade, et al, they would be one to reckon with.

Markrl, gets my vote any day, anyplace. He comes through and communicates throughly on every aspect.

I can't say the same for others doing repros. Really piss poor business management and communication, making promises, and then disappearing for months, bungling interest lists, et al.

I talked to him on the phone years ago when he was saying he as going to reproduce the Star Wars cockpit....it seemed like he really was addicted to the accolades he was getting at the time. I think that, in turn, lead to him painting himself into a corner he couldn't get out of, so he kept diggin the hole deeper and deeper until finally he cut and ran....
