Under no circumstances will any RAM Controls parts be allowed for sale here.

I've been wondering about those 720 rebuild kits that have been popping up recently from a couple people. I assume those are RAM, right?

All current repro parts for SW, 720, FF, etc on eBay and etsy are RAM parts, imo.
i think the 720 kits were acquired before the scamming and all the other parts were acquired after.

Does "pre-scam" or "post-scam" make a difference? RAM parts are RAM parts...the ban seems to be "Under no circumstances will any RAM Controls parts be allowed for sale here"

Could someone list all of the parts to be on a watch out for?

I joined post RAM Controls, so I know very little about them.

I don't think anything I have an interest in crosses over to their parts, but I don't want to make that mistake either.

It means under NO circumstances, N O N E.

Due to the many people who have been taken advantage of, from this point forward, absolutely NO RAM Controls parts are allowed for sale on this forum, period. From Me to todays latest signup, no one is allowed to sell them here.

I don't agree with this. But then again, that really doesn't matter. Not my circus, not my monkeys.

Carry on.

I acquired one of those Ram Controls USB encoders from someone via messages in the past.
I setup a whole SW Yoke homebrew cab for MAME.
Turns out the emulation sucks compared to the real experience and it wasn't enjoyable.

Sold the yoke, bezel and encoder on ebay for a ridiculous amount of money which surprised the heck out of me.

A lot of people lost money due to RAM 'business'.

Maybe some people bought stuff from RAM and waited (and even already paid) for additional parts that were never produced. They now cannot continue their project and have parts they can never use and they are not allowed to sell here while other people might be searching for just that specific part.

If it (KLOV admin) would be my job I would have said that RAM parts may be sold, but only for the money they were bought from them, to stop people making profit by selling them.

Just my thoughts about that, I'm not involved in any way :)

I don't know Tom's reasoning, but my problem with RAM parts is that they seem to continue popping up, and it's hard to tell if it's pre-scam or post-scam parts. I get the feeling that RAM is still around, unloading inventory by selling/trading parts, likely claiming to be someone that's been holding onto stuff they bought a long time ago.

If there's always a market for the parts, people will be willing to make deals for RAM parts. Say RAM (or whatever they call themselves today) is offering to sell 10x 720 rebuild kits for $50 each, and a member knows they can unload them here for $100 each... lots of people would take the easy money, even if they suspect that they might be dealing with RAM. Banning sales of RAM products discourages this, forcing someone to take the sales elsewhere. With how much money/parts RAM owes people in this community, I agree that we shouldn't encourage anyone to continue doing business with them... even if that means living with old, worn out OEM parts.

the situation is more nuanced than that

while in theory I 100% agree with your point, it also passively sets a precedent if we're seeing these parts freely bought and sold here

I think the bigger picture here is that scammers (and the tools they use to scam people ... i.e., these parts) will in no wise be tolerated in this community.

what I would say is ... if you like RAM parts, or know folks that are interested in them, find another place than KLOV to sell/trade 'em.

A bit eccentric, don't you think?

The parts are the parts, they either work or they don't. The seller is the cancer.

Like whores chasing gold bars.....I don't think there is a KLOVer on this forum that would hesitate to use a working RAM controls part on their project if it meant getting their machine working.....just being real here.

If you want to help the community, and fight the cancer that is RAM controls, then do the community a service, and write up a detailed post, in a new thread, to educate people about the history of RAM, who he is, what he did, etc, with as many specifics as possible. Most people here are newer than most of the RAM story, and don't have the perspective that most veterans have.

Then create a list of all of the known parts RAM has created, with pics, and explanations for how to identify these parts from originals, so people know exactly what to look for.

Otherwise, sending people to educate themselves about things they don't know to look for will be partially effective at best, and that's being generous. (And yes, I am aware KLOV has a forum specifically for RAM, but the information is still spread out, and most of it old, and would be easier for people to consume if a current synopsis was provided.)

Banning the sale of these parts, with no information or guidelines to help the majority of people who are newer than most of the RAM saga, doesn't actually help fight the cancer, but only frustrates people, and pushes the problem into someone else's backyard, as the parts will continue to be sold (and people potentially scammed) elsewhere. (And maybe that's good enough for your purposes, but it helps to be clear about your goals.)

That blanket statement is just rude.

Good thing we have an entire subforum here dedicated to this issue. Please feel free to write something up. I will gladly publish it.
