I just wanted to post up about the product I just used, Lift Off 4. This stuff was amazing, very easy to use and did not harm the vinyl art underneath at all.

I went from picture number one to picture number two in just under 20 minutes. I sprayed down the black paint and then used a body filler spatula to scrape the sides. Once it was pretty clean I gave it another quick spray and cleaned off the remnants with a rag. Pics are kind of lame because all I had was my phone and I forgot to take one before I sprayed the first time but you get the idea...

Obviously there is still some minor clean up to do but I must say I was really impressed with how well this stuff worked. Now I am going to remove the CP and thoroughly clean it.

i still want to know why people think its a good idea to put some nasty black rattle can paint over great looking side art like that

Just curious... do you know what kind of paint was over it? My cabinet's previous owner said he thinks the side art on it is still in tact, but was painted over before, and he did another coat with an oil based paint.

Thanks for the compliments, I was very pleased with the results as well, this weekend I will remove the CP and strip it down, and then really clean up the sides with some clean rags.

I am guessing this art was painted over because the game was converted to a surfing game, doesn't bother me too much because it likely preserved the art underneath.

I am unsure what type of paint this is, but there are a few different kinds of Lift Off, though I am not sure if they are all safe for use with Vinyl. Best bet is to try it somewhere inconspicuous first and see what happens.

Nice job! Looks great!

I've used Goo Gone recently, soaked the parts in it cause they were small enough.

Will have to try this next time myself.

tonight at home depo i bought a spray can of goof off and that lift off 4 shown in the first post.

Lift Off, though $2 more expensive, is a much more powerful product and the contents of the bottle allow it to last much longer and cover a larger area.

heres what i managed to do with it tonight

Wow, that looks like it's pretty good stuff. Did it happen remove any of the original cabinet paint also? I ask because I have a Robotron 2084 that has been spray painted and I'd like to be able to remove it without doing too much damage to the orginal paint. I'd appreciate any advice.

ya if its paint over paint you might need to rethink what your doing a little, im not sure

my afterburner was like a huge one piece decal on the side with paint over it. so it was almost like stripping paint off of plastic. if its paint on paint though the remover isnt going to know where the bad paint ends and the good paint beginns. its just going to sink in

i just want to know what clown before me decided they wanted to own an original working afterburner but thought black paint on the sides looked better then that colorful piece of atrwork??

Yeah I picked up a bottle at lowes and tested it in a small area and it will pull up the original paint so I may have to strip and repaint. I was able to just scrap a good majority off without really doing any damage to the original paint but have a few problem areas I was hoping this would work for.

I'm going to test in an inconspicuous area of a Japanese Nintendo cab (the the vinyl/laminate/enamel over plywood type) and see what I can find out.

It is good stuff to use when stripping paint from laminated surfaces. 3M safest stripper will etch laminated stuff. Motzenbockers (SP?) Will not.

I'm glad you posted this, because I had forgotten all about my bottle of graffiti remover. I need to get it out so I can use it on the backpanel art on Xevious.
