I recently put a Ultra Mortal Kombat 3 pcb in my KI2 cabinet since I rarely play the KI2. The problem is the kick harness headers are not the same on the MK board. I plugged the P3 plug in and have all but 1 button working. Does anyone have the pinout on MK3 board so I can figure this out?

I have a kick harness in front of me with an instruction sheet. It appears that the kick harness should be plugged into P7 on the killer instinct board, but on the MK3 board it needs to be plugged into P12

now you may know this already and this may be of no help.
hope it is though.

I got this from jammaboards.com so maybe they have more info there.

Can you tell I only own three jamma games?
I will check it out when I get a chance. Not looking forward to pulling that cab out again :(

you always want the header that's labeled "PLAYER 3". I reckon Midway did it with that weird naming convention because of all the 4 player games that they made, which of course the PLAYER 3 and PLAYER 4 each have their own harnesses for joystick and button inputs and they just wanted to follow the same format. so logically the next set of JAMMA+ inputs would be for "PLAYER 3".

note the orientation of the pins, I wanna say these headers have 15 pins, and they're marked 1:::::::::::::::15. you wanna match up the 1's, you might've plugged it in at the wrong end, which is why you only got one button to work.

(worthless trivia: UMK3, being a Wolf board which was shared with WrestleMania and NBA HangTime, also comes with a PLAYER 4 harness. Midway probably did this to consolidate everything into one board layout.)

an item to note, your Run and Low Kick button switches will need to be swapped. the KI2 button 6 = Run in UMK3.

I know all about these: they're practically the ONLY games I own. last year I had only 1 cabinet to play with for swapping all the MK and KI games in and out -- now I've got more "dedicated" configurations available to me.

The MK board has two headers that the P3 could plug into. I plugged it into the wrong one first and none of the extra buttons worked. So I plugged it into the other one and all work but one button. I dont think its plugged in backwards because the buttons that are working are corresponding to the buttons shown on the screen in test mode. I will certainly check it out and be sure, just dont think thats the case.

lol, I read your post wrong.

yeah, that's certainly strange, cause I'm assuming that the kick harness worked fine with KI2. stranger things have happened though... could be a broken ground wire. I had a KI2 control panel that had intermittent weird ground issues. I wound up replacing all the wiring with an extra set I had laying around, problem solved.

considering 5 buttons of 6 work though, try leaving the grounds the same, but switching the input wires between a good button and the suspect one to see.

there's copies of the manual on arcarc, if you want to also deduce which pin is not working.

Did you ever figure this out, Riptor? I have an MK4 cabinet with a 100% working MK2 board in it. The "run" buttons aren't connected yet, but I wanted to see if my UMK3 board would work. I only plugged in the wiring marked "Player 3". It came up ok, but player 1's "High punch" button doesn't work. As with your problem, that is the only button that doesn't work. Other than that, UMK3 plays fine.

I would like to get a switcher to use both MK2 & UMK3 in the same cabinet, but I have to resolve this issue first.

yeah, whatever happened with this? :p

Lukenatme: if your High Punch doesn't work, then it's likely something's wrong with your JAMMA harness. the one in my KI1 had this problem with a few inputs, I just set all the switches to NC and had my fiance watch the screen to see if they would light up in the Switch Test while I was IN the cab wiggling JAMMA wires around.

I don't know if it's something with the wires or the pins, but after that I stopped switching boards out of that cab.

had a similar issue with my video signal wiring on my former UMK3/now Tekken Tag cab, I wound up replacing the pins/wires entirely, and still had problems. I kept wiggling those until they worked and just hot glued them in place.

likewise I won't be switching games out of that cab again either. I guess the Midway JAMMA harnesses get worn out easy, either that or it's just the condition of my machines, as I bought them used and they were whored out for multiple conversions over the years.

but why would it work with my MK2 board? That is how I got this machine, as an MK2, which is why the Run buttons aren't wired. Switching over to UMK3 causes just that one button to not work.
