Heres what I'm looking at. Already tried reseating all the chips, no difference. Seems like a couple of rows just went bad. Any ideas?

that's interesting. don't they run in series? I'm not an electronics guru by any stretch... but maybe it's got christmas light syndrome. :p

either that or you just have horrible luck with these things. you punted on that MK2 didn't you?

Sort of. I bought a fresh MKII boardset and determined that both sound boards I had were bad. So basically I ended up with 2 PCB's and 3 sound PCB's, 2 of which were bad. I have since traded that game off and sold the extra boardsets I had.

This one looks like its one big board, no pesky sound board. Just wondering what would cause these roms to all go bad at once, or if that's really the problem?

[enter evil Shao Kahn laugh] Muahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaa!

I found the culprit. It's one of the big square (processor?) chips, at U47 IIRC. The socket is cracked in the corner, seperating the pins. I have it pinched together with a spring clamp and the photos tell the rest of the story.

So now the question, is there an easy fix for this? Replacing it looks like it would be beyond my skills, but I dont see any other way. Can this be fixed, and how?

I would think it's a processor of some sorts. it's got Altera on it... whatever that means. those are the kinds of chips that handle the boot chip on the KI boards, and the hard disk controllers I suppose. :p
