I have an Ultracade machine with and HP tower (desktop) PC. It has run fine for a while and we have been shutting it down using a power strip.

Today, I was swithing out the strip for another and when I plugged it back in, it did not come up and simply said "no link detected, check link cable"

Checked all the cables, nothing loose. Did nothing to jar anything when I moved the game.

When I pushed the reset button on the PC tower, it came up, at first it was stuck on one game (not going into attract mode) and then it seemed to go back to normal.

Anyone know what this is and what to do to fix it?

Thanks,

Jim

Oops..Wrong message

It actually says "no signal detected, check signal cable"

Thanks for any help or ideas.

i think theres plenty of people here who turn games off/on with a power strip with no trouble. i was taught not to plug games into a power strip. it could also depend on how many games are on the strip. an overloaded condition should be avoided. probably its fine but all mine are wired into switched wall outlets, no extention cords or power strips etc.
with that said, you might want to open up the back and see if all connectors are nicely seated. if theres a switching power supply, the +5V DC can drift downward a little over time and needs to be adjusted with a multimeter hooked up.

your plug does have 3 prongs on it right? outlet grounded correctly? feed from fusebox isnt 50+ years old?

sounds like your BIOS got reset and is not powering on automatically. UltraCade systems never shipped with tower computers inside. Go into the BIOS settings, and look for a setting for POWER LOSS and set it to ALWAYS ON.

Yep. I just fixed one that the owner hadn't played in several months and it wouldn't come on unless you opened the coin door and pushed the power button on the front of the tower. Had a dead battery on the motherboard. Replaced the battery, booted into the BIOS settings and changed the option to restart after a hard power loss (under Advanced CMOS setup) and all was good....

That message is coming from the monitor, not from the PC. It means that the PC isn't sending any video at that point (i.e. the PC isn't on). Make sure your BIOS is set to turn on at power available, instead of just when the button is pushed.

Problem solved. Thanks a ton!

Took the back off, checked the cables, all good. Checked the battery on the motherboard (didn't realize there was one, thanks) and then plugged in a keyboard and went into the BIOS.

Changed the setting like you all said and VOILA! no more issue. Not sure how I changed it in the first place as it was working fine until yesterday, but not worrying about that right now.

Thanks again to all who replied.

Sincerely,

Sometimes static electricity will knock out the CMOS settings. But you should just change the battery if it happens again as they tend to only last about 5 years.
