Checking to see what experience folks have with the Ultracade OS installation. I recently picked up brand-new OS install disks for Ultracade and the games package. I've got a spare Compaq/HP machine that is almost identical to the one that was in the Ultracades, and I'm wondering if the OS is forgiving enough to install on it and function. It's just a regular PC, and I'm a pro at anything PC-related.

I've not played with it yet though, so I thought I'd pre-emptively ask if anyone has had luck installing the Ultracade OS on a different machine. Is it built on a Linux kernel? Might be easy enough to hack in driver support for anything that isn't recognized out-of-the-box...<grin>

Thanks,
Greg

Hardware won't be your problem. It's the encryption for game installation. The software creates a unique machine id number based on the serial number of the hard drive (for Arcade Legends, the motherboard's serial is used too). The OS will expect a unique install code for the gamepack based on the serial number of the install disk and the machine ID number. From what I understand only Global VR (the owner of the Ultracade stuff) can provide you with the correct code to install the games.

Thanks for the info.

I'll give it a shot and see, that's about all I can do. The discs do have codes written on the package, not sure if that's what I need or not.

Low priority project at the moment, I'll report back my findings when I get to it.
