Working on an Ultracade machine at the moment and all I get is a black screen when it's powered up. Worked fine a few days ago (isn't that always the case?).

So popping off the back I can tell that the PC is coming on, I can hear the fan, etc, and can see some lights on the motherboard. The screen does seem to be getting power, it just glows black... when switching the machine off you can see a bit of light as the monitor powers down.

It doesn't seem to coin up or play blind.

Any ideas on this one so far?

Tell us what monitor you have in there. Certain models have a memory defect that causes the screen to blank, but can be fixed with a memory recall (providing it has an onscreen menu that you can access).

Is this Ultracade an Arcade Legends or a regular? I think it has a video interface board on the side where the video comes out of the PC, goes to a little board, then goes to the monitor, right? Is that board hooked up right? power to it?

Easiest way to check ...

Pull the parallel port dongle out and plug a standard
computer monitor into the VGA out plug on the computer
(not the IO board). If the computer is OK that you will
see the game on the PC monitor.

Update on this:

Sorry, the machine is at the local arcade so I can't check on these things right away. I went in today and found out this:

The monitor is a Zenith G-A63ADG25X. It does seem to have power going to it. The tube has a nice glow and if I pot up the "screen" knob I get a bright white screen.

The computer does beep when it boots up.

I haven't had a chance to hook a monitor up to it but it sounds like that would be the next step.

I am not sure which type of Ultracade machine it is, but here is a pic of the computer:

I get no game sound when I boot up, but unplugging the 1/8" jack from the pc does give me a little buzz from the speakers, like normal.

you have a graphite PC and what looks to be a Wells K7000 from what I can see. I just repaired a Graphite a few weeks ago. It had a bad battery and a bad power supply. It was doing the exact thing that yours is doing.

Graphites are known for having weak power supplies. Fairly easy to repair, or you can hack in a regular PC power supply. Since you're getting nothing at all on the screen (ie no boot screen at all), I'd guess your HD could be alright. That's the expensive part!

Thanks for the feedback folks!

Any tips on what type of power supply and battery I should get to replace? It would be a few days before I could make it out there to check myself.

Latest news:

I hooked up an external monitor and get the splash screen followed by,

"Invalid Boot Diskette; Insert Boot Diskette In A"

Here's a video of this happening: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-M_zZu59JuI

I am guessing this might be a problem with the hard-drive? Anyone have any ideas on this? Sucks for the guys who just bought it. It worked for about 5 days now this.

Hmmm... Could be that the BIOS reset itself and is set to only boot from the "A/floppy" drive. I'd pop the computer open, test the battery to make sure its good then poke around the BIOS and make sure that the DVD\CD drive is the first boot device then the hard drive.

Having similar issue with my Ultracade

I am having a similar problem with my ultracade machine

Here is my situation

Mine is the 6 button version WITHOUT the trackball

On the front of the cabinet it says "Ultracade" Powered by "Quantum 3D"

copyright 2000

The machine powers up and I can HEAR sound coming from the games

BUT, the monitor screen is 100 percent dead - just black - nothing

the part # on the backside of the monitor tube is

A68QBC230X

Is there a repair kit available for this monitor?

Anything I can check on my end that might be a "common" issue / failed part?

Can you suggest a repair tech in the Las Vegas area?

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Much appreciated.

Go post in "Technical - Videogames - Monitors" with the chassis model (if you know it) and pictures of the chassis. Mention whether you have neck glow, and test the monitor on a different game if you can. Read the stickies in there before you post, it'll make things go a lot faster.
