just as I update my signature and so on, I realise I have a pretty good lineup of drivers

Sega Turbo (love it when it works!)
Pole Position
Outrun
Outrun 2

what else should be considered the best of the best drivers?

does Super Sprint fall into this catergory?

I remember Race Drivin, as being neat in the arcade, what with a shifter, the loop (or was that Hard Drivin) but was never one I was drawn back to like PP or Turbo, Rush the Rock is good, but more when its 2 player etc

I think you have the statement in the parentheses after the wrong game... ;)

I second needing Rush the Rock, the more the better. I would also add an original Daytona USA, and again, the more the better.

My driving lineup:
Sprint 2
Race Driving Cockpit
Daytona USA Upright

I'm pretty happy with those games, although, I'd be happier if I could fit them all in the house. There is no way the 700lb Race Drivin is going in the house.

I realise I have a pretty good lineup of drivers

Buggy Boy (3 screens)
Monaco GP (cockpit)
Limited Edition Hang On (Super Hang On in the Deluxe Hang On)
Power Drift (upright)
Super Monaco GP (upright)

Same for me !

I currently have
Hydro Thunder x2
Pole Position
Cruis'n USA motion cab

I think Hydro Thunder holds up really well; There is a lot to do in that game.
The motion really makes the Cruis'n shine, but if I get tired of it, I will probably end up swapping it for Rush the Rocks and maybe a newer racer.

I have owned Super Sprint, and I probably will again. It was the most played game in the arcade while I had it.

My ultimate lineup...(all cockpits)

Night driver
Monaco GP (have)
Pole Position
Outrun
Race Drivin' (have)
Rush the Rock/Alcatraz
Daytona
F355 Challenge
Outrun 2

My current driver lineup includes:

Outrun
Race Drivin'
Cart Fury
Cruis'n Exotica
Rush The Rock Alcatraz

...which is actually no longer a "row" as I had to move the Outrun and Race Drivin' machines to accommodate a Showcase cab on that wall...

I'm pretty partial to Rush the Rock for nostalgic reasons as well as it being a kickass game.

Driving games are all about linked pairs (or more). Much better playing another human. I would say

f-355 challenge (I would love to have a pair)
rush 2049 (or rush the rock)
daytona (or something like it)
maximum tune (or some other drift racing game)
race drivin (I wish linked play was better)
super sprint (or champ sprint)
sprint 2 (best of its era)
outrun (best of its era)
pole position 2 (best of its era)
night driver

I don't consider all the other games like artic thunder and hydro thunder, ect as driving games. But of those, I like vapor trx.

My current lineup at my house includes a Crazy Taxi, and 2 Rush the Rocks linked together. And then at my Uncles warehouse, I have 2 Rush 2049's, an Offroad Thunder, Arctic Thunder, and Cruisn' USA. 2049's are the best newer racing game in my opinion..I love them!

I would love to own Crazy Taxi, perhaps someday. Did the arcade version have The Offspring soundtrack as well, I only recall the Dreamcast version? This would be my future line up:

Spy Hunter
Crazy Taxi
Cruisin' USA
OutRun
Chase H.Q.
A.P.B.
Pole Position
Super Sprint
Super Off Road
Demolition Derby
