I need to multi/mame my Mario bros widebody.

Now hear me out. I don't WANT to do this, however nothing would be damaged. Hell I spent $500+ converting this from a double dragon back to a nice looking MB widebody. However...in my 1 bedroom apartment I have only have space for 3 cabinets. (Mario, Pac, DK). My DK and Mario are dedicated and the PAC is a 60-1(with unplayable games turned off) which i am going to switch to an ArcadeSD when I get the funds.

My issue I guess is I ony have space for 3 games, and I have only 1 horizontal cab and I rarely play Mario(but I don't want to sell it). The plan has always been once I move out of the apartment, find a house with a decent basement and keep the Mario, DK and convert the Pac back to dedicated as it had no board when I bought it. Then I would get 1 25" cab for two player mame action.

I really miss some of the games I had on my old Mame setup, such as metal slug which my wife actually played with me, tapper, Marvel vs. Capcom stuff like that. And I have the widebody control panel that came with the Mario when I bought it that was drilled to hell, so I could easily use that and I already own an xarcade DIY controller board, so the only thing I would need is a VGA2CGA converter or an ArcadeVGA...I wouldn't even remove any wiring, would just disconnect the power going to the power supply. It would seriously take like 10 minutes to get Mario back to dedicated...if that.

It's so damn tempting and everything will be converted back when I finally have space...but man...I spent a lot of work on that Mario....

I'm sure I know most of your opinions already...but lets get everyone going on here for some good old fashioned KLOV drama! :)

The 19 in 1 has Mario on it. Build yourself a Jamma to mario adapter and just plug it right in.

But the game selection is terrible on the 19-1.

I think It would be nice to mame because then I could also run every Vs. game too that would be cool...

It's really about the space and # of games I enjoy I guess

Take the 19 in 1 turn off everything you don't like and it suddenly becomes pretty good. I think mine only has 10 games turned on.

Sell it and let someone who would love to own a dedicated Mario Bros have it . Then pick up another cab . I say get a Candy Cab , then you can rotate the monitor .

Double Dragon cabs are great for MAME, swapping boards or multiple configs.

The PCB drawer makes it super easy and they rotate pretty nicely also. Candy Cabs take VGA if you get the right monitor but that can be a pricy setup...

It's not that I don't like having it, I want to keep it, I just want to using the cabinet for something else until I have space for a another can I can convert.

I love the double dragon drawer design. Would be cool to have one of those at some point.

The big issue is space. I have a popeye board as well and I have the Mario wired with a dokert harness and a 4-way joy on player one so I can just swap the board. There are a few glitches with the popeye I'm still working on figuring out (I'm guessing bad ram on the video board) but in that small space you see in the picture, even to swap that board I have to move the Pac to be able to move the Mario just to swap for one game...

This thread is full of my first world problems I suppose... Lol

yeah maybe score a back up control panel that you can swiss cheese with buttons, and joysticks that move more than 2 ways. :)

get an adapter or add another wiring harness.

Why not. Sounds like you aren't going to damage the game, just 'reassign it' for awhile.

MB uses a different power supply than Popeye...

I wonder if anyone has installed hyper spin in a xxxx-in-1, the interface on them could be improved.

Do xxxx-in-1's run Windows and I just didn't realize it? Just curious how you would put Hyperspin on one of those boards.

Yes, they run the chinese edition of windows 2000. You can install XP or whatever you want on it.

The nice thing about them is you get a 15 khz video card and jamma interface built right into a pc.no messing around with converters and input encoders.

I already have one. When I bought the cab it was a double dragon with a three button setup for each player. i would probably add a few buttons for each side so I can play fighters. When I was restoring the cab back to Mario Bros I purchased a Wide body panel on ebay and put a screen CPO on it, looks great! No way I would ruin it. I have 2 Sanwa JLWs? Laying around that are 4/8 switchable by twisting the restrictor plate and I have an input board already, so it really would only take me buying a VGA2CGA converter as I already have my old pc laying around.

Not trying to damage anything, as I said, I spent like $500 just to get it back to life. I just want more games! haha

This is not an issue with the Dokert Harness ;)

I say do it. Keep the guts inside just in case you have 2nd thoughts. I had a similar thought. Not a Mario, but that's what I'm doing with a gutted Nintendo cab that I picked up:

Yea Ive looked at the boards in the past. It would be nice to have a JAMMA connector, but since its just temporary im not too stressed about it. The issue with buying one of those boards would be the $$. Since I already have a PC laying around that will run everything I want to play I would just need the $30-40 VGA2CGA converter....now if they work well.....i have no idea. Just throwing my ideas out there.

BTW, all the Candy cab suggestions...I really like the candy cabs, I never see them though. easy monitor rotating sounds awesome

Yea I would definitely keep the board, honestly it will probably stay inside the cabinet, I would just disconnect the power from the brick that goes to the power supply, it would only take unscrewing 2 terminals, swapping the control panel, and connecting the speaker and video to get a dedicated Mario again.

I really like that cab BTW! Very clean! But I have no desire to change my graphics on the cabinet, I would like something like that the extra control panel though.

Well, I'll be damned, didn't realize that at all. Sweet.

Go ahead and do it. You're not damaging any of the original wiring or hardware. And like you said, it's easy to go back to a dedicated Mario Bros. setup.
