since I got an extra U5000 now that I got my Polo back running, the cannibalized U5000 that was in my SportStation had lifted solder pads/traces on the remote board for the V-pos adjustment, and figured a swap of the remote boards would resolve it.

it did not. I've already re-capped this chassis, it's the one I posted about the neckboard being all jacked up, and I swapped the neckboard from a K7500 a couple weeks ago.

is there another adjustment pot on the board that I need to know about or something else that would cause this?

the screen's vertical position is too low. I'd say the top 2 inches of the screen are empty, that's how low it is.

And thus, this is why I'm literally giving my U5000 away to Cadilacman here on the boards. Mine did the same thing. I even had him do a total cap kit. Wow, nice colors, still shitty vert hold. I understand that there's three upgrade kits for these that are considered mandatory if you wish to keep using it. Power supply, horizontal output, and vertical sweep kits are made for these dogs. I think you can go to wellsgardner direct and look it up. I never bothered after my hot blew (again)....

Here's info on the three kits if you wish to purchase from Happ.

Horizontal Output Transistor Update Kit
SO1J0000-OOOF Wells Gardner Part Number
49-5039-00 Happ Controls Part Number ($29.55)

Vertical Sweep Service Kit
S05F0000-000F Wells Gardner Part Number
49-1262-00 Happ Controls Part Number ($40.95)

Power Supply Update U2000/U5000
S04E000-000F Wells Gardner Part Number
S04E000-000F Happ Controls Part Number ($17.34)

well, I have one that's great. this one came from a Blitz machine I got at auction. I got 2 Blitzes at the same one in fact, and both of them the monitors were trashed. I did a lot of work on adjusting and re-capping. the U5000 I speak of is of entirely different build quality than the one I bought after my Polo crapped out again.

that's the one with the V-pos issue. so I just swapped monitors. I'll keep that as the extra. tube's decent on it, and if anything, I'll have spare parts.

just wish a Ken would come by and explain this mess. :) he'll ask if it's got all the updates. I don't know. both of my U5000s look totally different. the one I bought alone is 10x better though. the bad one, I think the flyback might've been going on it anyway or something else, cause I can't get it to focus anymore.

Reading through each of the Service Kit instructions will tell you if your monitor has had any or all of the updates done to it:

So you're saying the vertical position won't adjust at all, or it won't adjust far enough?

won't go far enough. it's like it only goes down, not up, the way I want it to. lol in case you didn't catch it I already re-capped it too, but that whole monitor's got issues, it's the one where I had lifted pads/traces on the neck, deflection and remote boards, had to use some major trickery to get it to work. the one I swapped the other K7500 neck onto.

Ken, check my other thread if you can please. http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=115022

sweet.... thanks for posting that ken, now i know what i need to start looking at with ym dead u5000 that steve gave to me today.. i already recapped it and put ina new hot previously, it worked but the pic linearity was horrible anbd bowed in etc.. i guess it ran for awhile before it puked the hot again.. im gonna have to check that thing where the leg goes through, mabye i can get away with fixing that and putting in a new hot again

U5000 has such horrible build quality. to think WG actually got WORSE after. lol

supposedly these cook stuff if you have the brightness up too high, just thought I'd insert that. saw that somewhere last week I think?
