HEY GUYS.. i have a 27" u5000 here.. brought to me with a blown hot. The former owner tried messing with b+ "to make the pic a little more perfect" and broke the pot. It "looked good" for a few days then puked the hot.

I replaced the hot, replaced the b+pot, recapped it, and set b+ to spec...

It worked, but the pic was bowed in (hourglass), worst on the right side, and the width adjustment does not work... its stuck real wide. Also the pic will not go fully tall, it will fold in on itself if adjustment is attempted.

It ran as-is like this for about a month then puked ther hot again..

monitor sat several months, the former owner got a new monitor and gave this back to me for free...

I replaced the hot again, performed the bulletin in which you trim back the plastic pcb holder and reflow solder add a heat sink etc.. fyi this has also already had the vertical sweep mod done as well.

well after all my hard work, it works again, but still has the same picture problems as before. I suspect if ran too long itll puke the hot again..

Has anybody ever ran into this issue before? or is there something you would suspect? im pretty good at tracking down k7000 issues but this turd u5000 is throwing me for a loop!

for frame of reference, heres what it looked like then (and still does now)

and heres the old thread

I'm too bored to read that old thread.

T701 seems to be the pincushion transformer. i would think the problem would be somewhere between U701 (Pin 12 should read 0.50 vdc) thru Q703 thru T701 thru Q704 and a few other caps diodes resistors before hitting the horizontal yoke.

I'd start there...

thx mod..

too tired will hit it up tommorow..

was hoping to get one of these damn monitors working to drop into the race drivin im getting tommorow, but alas not gonna happen...

been poking away at it havent found it yet...

should also mention that the width coil also does nto affect width still stuck side and the pincushion adjustments also do not work...

You do know about those mods for this, right? I think I posted the link in your last thread you made... Look up U5000 mods. They are somewhat cheap.

sweep mod already done, i did the first one where you trim back plastic and resolder add heat sinks etc...

power mod not done but power is not a problem on this one...

could really use this too my race drivin needs a monitor...

hey also this thing hulas a little bit.. never noticed that untill now..

well i found that Q710 is shorted acroess the collector and emitter...

what are the chances ive found it?

(at least ti think its q710, its on the same heat sink as the hot(q704,) and some packaged diode(d707)

I hope you find what's wrong with that bastard. Had a really nice picture for the day it was working.

Isn't that a MOSFET ? (been awhile since I've looked at one)
Just make sure you're checking it correctly.

i dunno... i ordered just about every ic and transistor on the deflection half of the board..

time to load up the diagnostic shotgun and shoot this bastard full of parts :D

gorilla glue. fixes everything.

/sarcasm

I still need a 27" standard res monitor, *wink wink* lol

well you might be in luck..

if you can cough up a 25er id trade you.. cut i realized tonight that the game im wanting to use this in(race drivin upright) will require some serious hacking to make it fit...

so, look around and if you find like a 25" k7000 id trade... bonus points if its shelf mount...

this thing is clean... NO and i mean NO burn....

i just sold a max force duo cheap with a 25 shelf mount in it too...

my pm angel pmed me and told me that if that transistor is shorted it will cause my ecact issue to heres to hoping..

but like i said i also have lots of new transostors new ic the works...

u5000 monitors everywhere= 12,384,984,385,985,298,499

lol..

its alive....

verified that q719 was in fact shorted. THat was "overpowering" my width and pincushion circuits..

replaced q710, also replaced some small "2nxxx" transistors in the deflection circuit and on the pinchshion board, not because they tested bad but just because i had them and went ahead and jammed them in..

Now i have width adjustment on remote board and coil, and i have pincushion adjustment as well...

WHOOHOO!!!

I have one slight issue remaining which is a slight "wave/hula" issue.. its like really fast skinny jailbars if that makes sense gonna replace the few caps that didnt come with the cap kit and if that does not fix it i can live with it...

but after like what 8 months??? its working (almost) properly!!

thanks to mod and all the other fellas(and ladies) that chimed in and pmed..(thanks deb)
