U5000 repair log

For those who like this type of thing:

Model: Wells-Gardner 25K5000 (U5000)

Symptom: Dead. No neck glow.

Analysis: B+ = 0v. Incoming power verified. R104 was getting very hot. Voltages at TP105 was good, but TP104 was 0v. Listening very carefully, I could hear a small "click" at power up, and again at power down. Seemed that the SMPS was working, but not the start up circuitry. Going through the Troubleshooting Chart on WG's support page eventually led to the culprit.

Solution: R765 (33k-ohm 1/2-watt) was open. Replaced it and monitor works properly now.



For once, the troubleshooting charts actually helped....
 
I should have mentioned that I installed a full cap kit and reflowed a bunch of solder with no result prior to the fix.

Also, I tested the flyback with my ring tester first also, to rule out any issues there...
