Ok, up front...based on all the reading I've done so far, I should just pitch this in the trash and save myself the headache. That said, I've tried to research as much as possible and here is where I'm at:

- U5000 chassis set to medium res
- no neck glow, no picture
- I do have a high pitched buzzing when the chassis is powered up
- the buzzing seems to be in the HV area
- while checking voltages on the bottom of the board, the buzzing would stop when i touched some of the pads on the resistors that lead to legs on the U101
- I did the light bulb test and got no light at all

I've seen multiple suggestions that said start with U101 so I'll do that first. Before that, I wanted to ask a few questions.

- should I start pulling and testing all components in the HV area or are there some specific ones I can focus on?
- Is there a set of components I should just replace from the start and skip the testing?
- Is there a specific place or person where you can order non-standard items like U101 or do you just need to start tracking parts down at the various electronics sites. I've mainly dealt with flybacks and cap kits up to this point.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. This forum is awesome... and a treasure trove of information! You folks are great.

There is also a couple of capacitors in the power supply that will keep it from working.

First if this chassis has not had a cap kit that needs to be done. Wells Gardner used the worst and cheapest capacitors they could find. Also a good reflow of solder in the power supply and the main chassis is recommended.

Check with Security0001 (arcadepartsandrepair.com) he will have the cap kit for a U5000. He may also have the IC if not I should have a few laying around in a parts drawer. I can send you one if he doesn't.

Ah geez...thanks Ed.

Sorry, I left out the most basic information. Should have listed that first! Cap kit and flyback was the first thing I did.

My basic approach to every monitor is a good cleaning/washing. Check the tube on the rejuvenator (clean and balance), cap kit and flyback.

I'll start looking around for the U101. In the meantime I'll do the reflow on the power section. Thanks again.

Quick update. I did a reflow in that section and started checking some components.

- HOT is good
- R108 is good
- R100 was open....which explains why my light test didn't work. I'm going to order a new one, but I'm a little hesitant to throw a new one in if something blew it previously.

One a side note....I'm using the Medium res connection on the board. On the standard res connection, there appears to be some burnt plastic (which is right next to R100). Something went wrong there for sure.

Also, I didn't see the U101 on the arcade parts website, but I was able to find it no problem. Thanks for the offer anyway!

yes i usually stock the U101 but i ran out of stock of the U101 and U601 but i will have them back in stock in a week or two if you need them in the future. BTW: if you don't find something on the site ask because good chance i have it.

Excellent! Thanks for the heads up. Will definitely do that in the future.
