I just recapped a U5000, also installing all three service updates, and I'm very close to having it working correctly but for one big issue.

I cannot get the H Hold and V Hold to stabilize. The pots are just too sensitive for both, just when you get the screen to stop one way, it then goes the other way on both H & V.

The only thing different that I did is on the terminal strip for the sweep update, someone had already done and used at 15ohm resistor and I replaced it with a 22ohm (I was not able to find a 24ohm locally) could that be it?

Any ideas?

As it is a U5000, do you have the 15k/25k connector in the right spot? If you have to move it, shut it off first or you'll blow the HOT.

Also, how do you have the sync hooked up and what game is it connected to?

Didn't have to move it... it's on the 25K position. The monitor was/is in a Cruisin' USA.

also make sure you have a video ground wired in properly otherwise you will get the rolleys too...

Please explain. I know one of the upgrades that was on the service updates was to ground the chassis to the pan/frame. What video ground are you speaking of?

the one that goes in the video signal harness. the video signal consists of the picture information (RGB), a ground, and the sync wire.

I've seen some Midway cabs where the RGB/ground and the sync are separate connectors, perhaps when you hooked yours back up you plugged the sync wire in the wrong spot. I've seen the JAMMA harnesses themselves where the video contacts slide up and don't make a good connection with the board, happened in my MK cab, I wound up having to redo all the video wires and hot glue them in place. :)

not having the video grounded too can cause all kinds of abnormalities in the picture too, I know a tech that got a call about a monitor where the blue was strong. you should only get something like .1V at each color, he was getting over 3V at the blue I think, and that was because the ground wasn't making contact.

On the U5000, there are TWO jumpers which both must be on the same setting.

Be sure the long multi-pin connector is set to 25khz and the vertical sweep upgrade connector is also set to the correct position for 25khz operation.

Be sure also that the sync signal is connected to the proper input terminals.

For this situation, is Cruisin USA a positive or negative sync game... perhaps I'm using the wrong inputs on the chassis.
