Hi,

I'm doing my first cap kit on a U5000. I removed the first cap, but I can't tell the polarity. The board is marked with a circle, half black. Is the black side the negative? The cap (Wincap brand) I removed is marked with a stripe and 0 0 0 and is installed on the black side.

Help please. Thanks. I don't want to put all the caps in wrong.

The black is the negative side. However, sometimes the screening on the board is messed up so it is a good idea to look at the previously installed cap before you remove it. Also, the long leg of the cap is the positive and the negative side usually has arrows or a black stripe.

That's the problem. The previously installed cap has a stripe with 0 0 0, not + or - sign. I didn't want to assume that the stripe with 0 0 0 was negative. Should I?

Also, most caps have one leg longer than the other. the long leg is the positive, and the short leg is the negative...

I'm about half way done. Wife wanted to eat dinner and watch a movie.

Back to work again...I'll let you guys know the outcome.

That was 6 hours ago. This chassis shouldn't take more than an hour to do, and quite a bit faster for those of us who do it a lot...

Yeah sure...if you know how to solder. I'm just learning that as well.

So...I got the cap kit done and it is F'in Beautiful!

No more weird lines at the top of picture and I can finally adjust it vertically.

Thanks to all who helped. :)

I'm going back out to the garage to play some MK2.

U5000 c512

Doing my first cap kit install. All is going great till I got to C512. The old cap is different and does not have a polarity makering on it, or the board, my board pic from WG. Dont want to get it in the wrong way. Should I even change it?
