Instead of continuing to hijack someone else's thread, I thought I'd start a new one. I have a U2000 that I have recapped and put a new flyback in. Occasionally it will start up and run, but when it doesn't, it sounds like the flyback is hissing. I've learned that if I disconnect the video cable, the hissing will stop, but still no power on the monitor. There is no CRT ground connected to the neck board. The CRT ground is connected directly to ground in this cabinet. I have tried connecting it, but it didn't help. I tested B+ at tp203(?)(vid b+) and it is 0 V.

The flyback is hissing? It could be arcing. Have you looked at it while it's hissing? I had one do that before and in the dark it was very obvious. It wasn't a U2000 but some other monitor. But that can be dangerous I believe if that's what it is.

No arcing is apparent. I have replaced the flyback and still getting the same thing.

Yeah, I just noticed you said you already swapped the flyback. How sure are you that it's the flyback that's hissing? Is it in the game where it's hard to see? Is there any way to power it up on the bench to get a better look?

I really should set up a test bench for monitors, since that's what I work on the most. But no I don't have a way to power it up outside the game.

The TS guide says to check Q705. I have searched the board and the schematic and I can't find it. Can someone tell me where it is. I know I'm just overlooking it.

You know that Q703 near the back edge that you do the "upgrade" to that Ken linked? Q705 should be right next to it.

I would check both of those transistors. I had one go dead because one of those transistors got bent over enough times that one of the legs broke...

The link Ken sent said the Q703 replacement was for the U-5000. Do I need to do that on the U2000 as well?

I don't have a Q705 next to Q703 or even a spot for one. I've attached a pic of Q703. Maybe I'm just missing something.

Nah, I looked at a pic of a U5000 (since it also mentioned Q705 and is similar). Yours might not have a Q705, and that sheet was a misprint. I have a U2000 at work, but I'll probably forget to look at it...
