My 78 year old grandma was playing TZ this afternoon and all of suddan the flippers all stopped working.. What could have caused this.. I'm thinking a Flipper fuse went?

anything i should be looking for? I have'nt looked at the machine yet.. I will look at the machine sometime tommorrow afternoon.

Best case scenario - dirty optos on the flipper board (by the player / where the buttons are). Probably not though, since both are dead?

Check fuses on the board - upper left corner - looks like this:

(i think thats the one). Also, check for anything burned / disconnected up there. Put the game in test mode - test the flippers on the test menu too. Anything?

yes all flippers in the machine did nothing.

Any other coils quit ? Check in coil test, and step through them. If a lot of them are out, check F112, a 7 amp slow blow.

Otherwise check the fuses on your fliptronics board.

You might go into switch edge test too and make sure the flipper button opto boards all work.

LTG :)

lifted up the playfield and did a test and the flippers worked.

They seemed too work fine.. The only time they stopped working right .. When fighting the power ball got stuck and had too do ball search.. When it found the ball the flippers did'nt work.

One other strange thing happened when a Match of a number happened on the display. Display completely locked up .. I had too reboot the machine too get it displaying right again.

So, you are saying that the flippers work fine now? If that's the case, it's not a fuse.

Are you saying they work in test, but not in game? If that's the case, it's possible that you lost a connection somewhere. I don't have the manual in front of me, but I think the buttons for the flippers are all on the same column. So, if you can give us more details, we can see what we can do, here. :)

As far as locking up, it sounds stupid, but remove and reseat every ribbon cable. I know, I know, it sounds stupid, but it really does fix a lot of crazy problems. I know from experience.

nope the flippers had locked up completely.. I lifted up the started pushing in cables and then they worked fine.

Intell i did the first fighting the power. Ball got stuck in the corner it did a ball search ball came out of the fight the power. But then the flippers had been completely dead again.

Then the game ended there was a Match that gave the free game.. When that happened everything got messed up and stayed on the locked up on my displays.

I had too turn the machine off and on again... Everything is fine since then . I've played a few games without any problems.
