Type of wood to use for back door on Missile Command

For Your Opinion:

I have an original Missile Command that I have not yet made up my mind to restore and keep, or just fix it up and sell it. Anyways, it's missing a back door. So would you make it out of particle board to keep it original or use a birch plywood to make it better than new? I will be adding the vent slots and so forth either way.

Personally, I would go with particle board. Not only for originality's sake, but because particle board tends to keep it's flat profile. Plywood tends to bow out like a banana and always seems to require screws driven somewhere about halfway down the door on both sides to keep it flat in the jamb.

Agreed. I need to make a new back door for Centipede and Crystal Castles. As tender as particleboard is, in a HUO environment, it should never get damaged. Closest I can think of to get the original look - use white melamine particle board, then apply black vinyl to the back side.

They make Black Melamine.

Well, that would probably be better, if you can find it. At Lowes and Home Depot, I only see the white, as it's used to make cheap cabinets. However..some of the Atari cabinet panels were white on the inside, so that's why this seems like a decent solution to me..then black vinyl on the outside.

Yeah, I had to buy from a wood specialty store. A lot easier then painting of applying vinyl though :)
