Two REQUESTS For The CAX Staff

Hand sanitizer stations throughout the showroom floor. There are some nasty stanky people roaming around the show. Would be nice to be able to sanitize the hands without going all the way out to the hotel lobby.

There definitely needs to be a balance between diversity and duplicate games. I like what was done this year, but I do think some obvious games need to be allowed to have duplicates. They somewhat did have duplicates in pinball at least (saw at least two Firepowers...there should be twenty of those imo ;P).

I'm half and half on coves. I think they are a cool idea, but there are games that really get screwed in the curve. There were almost too many coves this year compared to last year. Or maybe they were the same number as last year, but I just happened to dead end into them a lot more this year. *shrug*

I agree with the PPE line rule being stated. People still aren't gonna follow etiquette, but at least it is in black and white so it can be kinda enforced during extreme situations.

Someone mentioned it, so I'll echo it. The biggest con of CAX is a double edged sword. The attendance is huge, but I find because of that I play a lot less than every other show (well...pinball show). At 60 bucks, it's hard to not grumble at least a little bit when I am driving home thinking of how much I didn't get to play. I dunno what the fix is, but I'm putting that out there to sympathize.

That's it for criticism. Great show otherwise.

We needed some good 80's music. That big machine thing was cool, but it wasn't the same as having some good tunes playing all day long.

No More Noise!
My voice is still recovering from screaming at the top of my lungs just to be misheard

Less noise would help
Maybe a bit of light for all the vendors as well
Just enough to see if we got a $20 or a $50

Next year I bring large signs so all I have to do is point :)

If the game doesnt work upon arrival at Friday night and it isnt going to be something you cant fix before Saturday morning, make way for someone elses working game. I saw a Tempest and Indiana Jones that were dark for almost the entire weekend. Additionally, make "Out Of Order" signs for those that break down mid-weekend. I saw lots of games turned on and off and on and off. And I even found myself turning Cue Ball Wizard back on, only to hear the startling sound like a gunshot coming from the speakers, which scared the shit out of me. I shoulda known better, but whos to say something didnt get turned off or unplugged on accident?

Another thing that I think happens far too much is in haste to bring games to CAX, sometimes QC isn't performed well enough. If the powers up and plays, shows a picture, then that's often good enough to bring to the show.

BUT... please for everyone bringing games, check the controls. There's nothing worse that being stoked to see a game at the show only to not have working controls. Before I bought my Reactor, I saw one at a CAX years ago....so excited to play it only to find out the trackball bearing were shot. Fixing a micro or leaf switch is one thing but I doubt ppl bring extra bearing kits to CAX. Trackball games should be fully working before even bringing them to the show.

But shit happens..... a couple years ago at CAX, my food fight played fine for several hours and then began to freak out. Thankfully another KLOVr had a board to use for the rest of the weekend. That kind of support is what makes the convention totally worth it.

80's music

We needed some good 80's music. That big machine thing was cool, but it wasn't the same as having some good tunes playing all day long.

They need to put the 80's videos and music in a better area, did not even make it to that area at all.

#8. Booth Babes.

Why am I the first to +1 this suggestion???

Suggestion #10: (Is that the next one?) Allow guests to wear "Camelback" type drink holders on their backs. Not having alcohol in there sucks, and with the Camelback, it's not going to spill on the games. Charge extra for this, if need be.

Suggestion #2:

NO MORE CUL-DE-SACS.

I had a complete blast and am always in awe of the sheer number of games that are set up. There is obviously an insane amount of work you organizers do to get this all together. Thank you.

There are so many things done right in the show that I hate pointing out one that wrong: But.....calling them "Cul-De-Sacs" was being kind. These were dead-ends that caused big crunches of people running into each other. I was scratching my head every time I hit one of these walls. Very odd.

I'm sure there is much more to maximizing the space than appears on the surface, but in my opinion an arcade should always be organized with:
1. Games lining the walls.
2. Games organized in straight rows, two games wide (back to back). At cax you might need a narrow walkway between the games for service.

Great time!

I had a great time at CAX. I personally liked the variety, espcially games I haven't seen before like "the ACT".
---I saw there was a fix it patrol working on games they could. Like someone said, there should be an easy way to report a problem with a game, like a non-operaing flipper or button.
---I had trouble hearing the announcements.
---The incentive for buying the ticket earlier wasn't enough for me to do it.
---I was impressed how considerate people were on letting people behind them play. I tried to do the same.
---I like the idea of the vendors in the hallway. Better lighing and exposure for them.

Again...great job guys. That was super fun. I look forward to next year!

I'm hoping to go next year, this year's plan went to hell in a handcart. Is game hogging a big issue there or is it just a few people doing it? At the Seattle show if you stood behind someone they would finish their game and move on, if no one was there play on.

Looking forward to my first CAX -barry

Having attended in the past..lots of good ideas for future shows...

I think vendors in hall as opposed to same room as games is great idea...who wants to scream or discuss stuff when you can't hear...

Plus it would add space for more games and better layout.

Also better arrangement of games...I realize its tough because of late arrivals and possible no shows but I'm sure it could be simplified to just plug in whatever games you have to at last minute..

Hand sanitizer is great idea but something you should bring on your own...its cheap and often obtained for free at a lot of locations so I don't think CAX needs to provide that..you can find it yourself...It should be classified in same category as mandatory showering and deodorant before coming to show.

For me CAX is nice trip once...but not worth another trip across country again unless I have 8-10 good klover friends to hang with..

One thing not mentioned yet, and probably not known to everyone was power. I was helping move games, and we were told that we were out of power, so we couldn't move any more games in. Someone pulled up with a moving truck full of games late Friday, but ended up not bringing the games in. Going through the hassle of gathering a bunch of games, renting a truck, then just taking them back home without ever using them would have sucked BIG TIME, and would definitely deter me from bringing games next year.

There were also quite a few broken games, though I don't know what can really be done about it, since I wouldn't want anyone else ripping apart my games. Maybe a contact number to at least notify the owner, and they can choose whether to look at it or not. Or maybe when the games are moved in, verify functionality before having the owner run off, and move any games that were non-working aside to give room/power for working ones. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find "game testers", which would greatly increase the enjoyment of the games throughout the weekend. Tweaking volume controls would have been great, but obviously would probably take quite a bit of work to get it just right.

This would be great. There was a Black Knight 2000 that was just obnoxiously loud. I finally walked away from Revenge From Mars to get away from it.

Yes, on the far corner at one of the dead ends. I remember firing it up on Friday night just to play a game, but it was so loud I felt bad that I had started the game. I felt like I was in a Snickers "Wanna get away?" commercial. I ended up just shutting it off, turning it back on and walking away.

My games were set at home volume (I keep them pretty low) so I actually had people tell me to turn up my games. Most likely because the games around them were super loud.

Is game hogging a big issue there or is it just a few people doing it?

I really didn't think it was much of a problem this year but inconsiderate people are going to be inconsiderate people. The RUSH machines were a perfect example of courtesy, nearly everyone playing knew to turn around, look behind, and get up after a game if someone was standing there. Actually had a nice little chat with Owen Rubin when we were waiting to play.

Nothing like getting the Black Knight 2000 theme stuck in your head when playing Whirlwind.

I didn't think it was a problem, at least on the games I was playing. I did keep a couple quarters in my pocket, just in case. The one that might have benefitted from a little coordination is The Grid. It was full pretty much all the time, with a lot of the same players, though I don't know whether they had some sort of system for how to rotate players, or if you just got in line behind someone. A waiting line w/ the losers rotating out, or a limit on number of rounds may have worked.

The one I do know seems to be a "hogging" game is The Act. I'm not sure what could really be done though, because it takes a few tries to get the hang of it, and of course people want to keep going, since you can't start at a later stage if you leave and come back (I don't think).

There were a couple of people who would pull up a chair to Zeke's Peak and just sit there playing over and over. It helped it was hidden away in a dead end next to SFIII and was down most of Saturday so I didn't notice it was working until Sunday. Awesome game.
