First off - Thanks for any input or help in advanced.

Secondly:

Alright. So, I've had the Gauntlet Legends: Dark Legacy for about 7 months or so. All of a sudden one day, it stopped booting and displaying anything. The monitor and the marquee light turn on, but I'm getting nothing else. I can't even tell that the monitor is being powered on till I actually shut off the PSU. HDD doesn't spin and I don't see any blown capacitors on the board. I ordered another PSU to see if that may be the issue, but till that comes in I'm stumped.

As for SF2:NC, the whole cab kinda looks like a hack job. It's not mine and the first time I've seen this cab was two days ago. It doesn't seem to have the original PSU, but it still powers everything in the cab. The monitor and the PCB light up, but the monitor only displays 3 lines on the right of the monitor. I would have ruled it as a CPS-II suicide battery, but it didn't show any symptoms of that (flashing blue or green screens). I'm going to pull the CPS-II and check it in my blast city, but till then I was just going to get some ideas of what else it might be.

Any ideas?

Again, any help is appreciated. Thanks!

For your Gauntlet: it could also be that your 3dfx card has went bad. Luckily, Chad @ arcadecup.com sells them cheap!!!

Awesome find! Thanks for the heads up!

If the PSU doesn't work out I'll for sure order one.

No.

If the hard drive isn't even spinning up then it's not the graphics card.

Probably is the p/s or the connectors if you're not getting any activity on the boards.

To confirm, normally when the power is turned on you get leds coming on on the main boards and you'll get a numeric LED that will change as it goes through its boot up process.

You get no LEDs on the boards when the power is switched on?

No visible lights or numeric LEDs last I checked. I did see the display on the board last I was inside the machine. I figured a dead board is a possibly, but a new PSU would be the best/cheapest route to test it.

the best/cheapest route would be to use a digital multimeter to check the voltages on the board or at the cables feeding the board.

You can quickly tell if the problem is your power supply, the cables, or the board.

Big Update

Bringing this thread waaaaay back from the grave. Sorry for the novel, but I'm trying to eliminate multiple posts explaining the tests I've done so suggestions can be a little less vague.

This is mostly focusing on Gauntlet Legacy DL, now. I ordered a PSU from Happ (http://na.suzohapp.com/powersupplies/80007400.htm) to replace the one that was deemed dead after a multimeter check. It's been quite a while since I've had the PSU, but I just got around to finally installing it. Everything booted without the monitor and the board ran through it's beep codes and checks perfectly. The molex for the monitor power was not the correct fit from the previous power supply, so in innovative fashion I snipped the one off of the old PSU, barreled the ends, and locked them in the old molex connector. Reseated the JAMMA for good measure and noticed that pins showed carbon scaring on both +5 VDC pins. Cleaned it with eraser and snapped it back on.

First boot: Perfect. Everything started right up with no issues. Played the game for about 20 minutes to make sure all data was intact and that the video card didn't blow out and memory. LED indicators showed the board was receiving adequate power. Powered off the game satisfied with the outcome.

Skip to day 2: I came back to garage to show a friend that everything was working, and low and behold the board wouldn't boot. The LED indicator on the board showed a locked '.8'. After cycling power a few times, I finally got it to pass all boot checks and boot up. Touched nothing and cycled the power once more: no go - Still ".8". Other LED indicators show abnormalities: Labeled LED1 on the Sound I/O that indicates that the "SI/O is locked up". LED9, LED7, LED6, and LED2 light up at different times during each boot, with it them all lighting simultaneously sometimes. Those on-board LEDs show indicate all the linking activity according to the manual. About 1 more random normal boot happened that afternoon.

Skip to yesterday afternoon: Decided to go at it a little more. Everything I tried resulted in no changes - Unplugging the sticks, cleaning the JAMMA pins, reseating connections, testing without the HDD; nothing changed. After almost giving up with no complete boot ups for the day, I found the reset button on the CPU. Pressed it, and the boot sequence started right away! Cycled power to check for constancy - Same ".8" lock up. I was holding the connections to "Gun 1" and "Gun 2" when I powered the board and hit the reset button, so I tired it again. After 2 or 3 tries from cold boots and moving wires (not disconnecting them) then pressing the reset button on the CPU board, it would boot with no issues. The gap increased to 8 to 10 tries before a boot before stopping work for the day.

What gives? Any one have any ideas of what may be going on? The only thing I can deduce to is that my Sound I/O is bad. Any ideas?

Have you checked the voltage coming to the board to make sure that your +5 is good? You can actually check this in a number of places but the best is probably on the ROMs.

You may have an issue with the new ps. You may be having issues with the +5v traces being burned up.

Did you adjust the voltage from the new ps initially to make sure it's good? My new one came pumping out better than 6 volts before I adjusted it.

You might also try replacing the battery on your system.
