Two Donor Tubes

I picked up a Samsung CXM1974 TV/VCR a neighbor threw out. The tube is as follows: A48KRD82X

I also won an RCA F19421 TV on Ebay and the tube is as follows: A48AGY13X55

According to "http://www.junknet.net/donor-tvs" they are both usable and have CR23 necks.

But I ran into a problem when checking Ohms. The Samsung's readings were close to what is on the Junknet chart. (Which makes the Yoke useless for either my G07, 4600, or 4900). But I'm having difficulty with the RCA readings. The colors of the yoke leads at their relative positions doesn't help matters.(See drawn pic).

Can someone tell me which two coil wires are horizontal and which are vertical?

Also, considering the extreme burn-in and broken necks of my WG4600, WG4900, and G07 monitors, am I correct in assuming that it is best to use the donor tubes with the G07s?

Thanks.

From the pics I can't really tell. The easiest way to determine which two wires are connected is to just hook your meter up to any two wires. If you don't get a reading then you are not on a mated pair. Also, if you look at the connector to the chassis the horizontal wires are almost always next to each other and the vertical are next to each other.

You will not hurt anything trying to ID the wires with your meter.

Generally speaking, the 4900s use the skinny neck tubes and the 4600s and G07s use the thick neck. I find the thin neck much more common on the 90s sets.

I actually found a tube that the yoke readings nearly match a 4600 yoke, so I plan to try the direct swap with tv yoke intact. Winter project!

I have never seen a 4900 with a skinny neck. The majority of 19" K7000 monitors have a skinny neck, though.

Ok, I broke out the Alligator clips and tried again. I get 1.9 across red and white, and and 13.1 across the brown and blue. So I guess that makes this yoke unusable also, since the readings are not close to the G07, 4600, and 4900 tubes.

So pictured below are the two tubes I have with the updated info for the RCA.

I'm surprised you got anything between red and white (although you should make sure the yoke connector is unplugged from the chassis/board first!).

Horizontal is almost always red and blue...the other two colors are vertical. Doesn't matter where they attach at the tube.

Look at the yoke plug...usually the red and blue are side-by-side on the plug.

Looking again, I think this is the first exception, it does look like red and white are the horiz.

Thats why I always say "almost" ;-)

Those measurements are compatible with a K7000 chassis.

You could also drop a Wei Ya or Jen Shinn chassis on there too.

Since this tube is on your usable list I'm surprised you weren't given all of the details. Perhaps it was a quality control issue where someone at the factory got the colors mixed up on this one. :D

I'm still trying to figure out how to get the plug off the chassis without killing myself, but I assume it hasn't made a difference in the readings I got. I tried the other four combination possibilities and received wild or no readings at all.

Well, being broke I need to use what I have. So it's down to the multiples of the G07, 4600, and 4900 monitors that are taking up way too much space as it is. (Any ideas on which ones I should go with?).

Also, Since I'll have to use the yokes from the original tubes with the new tubes and the rings on a couple of them may have turned in unknown ways as a result of washing and handling them, how big of a problem will getting convergence right be?

Thanks.

On the way back from the store this evening I saw a Zenith A19A11D TV on the curb that someone threw out. A web search revealed that the tube is a CA48ACB32X (And A48ACB3X is on the Junknet list).

Unfortunately, the front of the tube had a small abrasion in it. So unless someone tells me this can be reliably and safely buffed out I guess I'd have to consider it not worth it. :(

Tube

Isn't that tube a direct swap for a k7000? I think I've got a couple.. As for the scratch on the tube.. If you put it into a game with a smoked plexi, you'll prolly never even notice it.. I threw one into a tron, had a huge scratch.. Can't even see it.

Good luck on your search for tubes! I've had a good few weeks.. Picked up 5 tvs, and 4 of them are almost perfect matches to k7000s.. Even found one that's an exact match to a sharp monitor that's in my buddies playchoice! With any luck I'll have a new tube in every game I own. Almost there!

Ok. The only common monitors I have are G07, 4600, and 4900. I'm assuming that tube wouldn't work with either of them anyway, correct?

Thanks.

Did you open it up?

Open it up, check the neck and do an ohms reading.

Just sounds like a tv I picked up the other day.. If you want to do more direct swaps (without changing yokes). You might want to pick up some k7000 chassis.. As it's pretty easy to find tubes for them..

If swapping the yoke isn't a problem, and shouldn't be.. Then just keep looking for the right neck and pinout.

Good luck!

I just wanted to say that I did pick up that TV. (Along with another several months ago that should be useable). I just have to check and see if anything I have is compatible with the two Sanyo 20EZ chassis' I have.

I walked past two 19" TVs thrown out last Wednesday. But by the time I returned with a cart the garbage man had already picked them up. :(
