I have two MsPac boards and one has two more roms ( 6K & 6L ) than the other and one uses the auxiliary board and the other doesn't .

Can someone explain why they are different even though they are both MsPac ?

Also are the roms 6J interchangeable between these two boards ?

One is a probably a legit Ms. Pac and the other is one of the various hacks that convert a Pac-Man board without using the aux board.

So the various hacks are not Official Midway Versions but a type of bootleg ?

They are the same board. Both are Pac-man boards to start with. The ROMs at 5E and 5F and the daughter board are the only difference between Pac and Ms. Pac. Really, its just some altered programming. Otherwise the hardware is exactly the same. The version with the 6 ROMs in row 6 instead of the daughter board is a hacked version written to avoid using the daughter board. There are also two extra wires on the back to enable addressing of the extra ROM sockets by the CPU. I recently acquired a PCB with this version and it plays exactly as the daughter board version would when equipped with a speed up chip at 6F.

As far as I know, none of the ROMs are swappable between the versions.

Thanks for the info ,

Yeah on the back ( solder side ) there is two extra wires . I thought that was a board repair but now I see its part of the hack .

You said with the speed up chip at 6F its plays the same as the official Aux board version , but what if I want to change it back to Slow version , is it compatible with the slow version ?

I would like to know this too. I have the "hack" version board with the speed up chip and I would like to replace it with the "slow" original version. Yesterday was the first time I have ever played the fast version and I'm not a fan.

Yeah fast version blows !

Anyone know if the hack version of MsPac can be turned back to slow ?
