So I just purchased two non working Asteroid delux machine. One immaculate other good shape and unhacked. Checked all fuses and reseated connections and checked for any damage on the boards. Plugged it in and nothing on both of them. Was able to find out that one toggle switch was bad (replaced it) and the other had the pressure senser to far away from the door when it would close.

No both machine power up. Led on boards light up, marques and backlight of teh cool asteroids is showing but nothing on the screen. No sound and wont coin up on either. tested the fuses on the monitor board and they are all good with no signs of anything "bad". The way the monitor is positioned its hard to get in there but it is doable.

Guess I have to pull the schematics online and start making sure power is going to the right places. :(

also there is neck glow and the led on monitor chasis also lights up

on one of the games the player 1 and 2 cone are flashing together. on the second game the lights just stay on

Under the test mode on the game with flashing player 1/2 I just get a beep every second or so whic makes me think Bad RAM at L1 according to the self test procedure listed at the back panel.

The one with the blinking buttons might be playing blind eh? Got a working monitor or a scope to check with?

I recently had a Asteroids (G05-801) that was doing that. I recapped the monitor and still it was dead, so I reflowed all the molex pins and she fired right up. I still say, those solder joints ALL looked good...not a single one showed cracks. Still...that's what brought it back to life.

Neck glow + spotkiller is a sign of a dead PCB. P1/2 solid on mean the board is not running. Adjust +5 on both first.

Not sure about Deluxe, but I think Asteroids only plays the tone sequence once instead of repeating it, so that may not be your problem.

I've seen solid on P1/2 buttons caused by a bad big blue, so swap PCBs and see if the symptom follows.

I havent checked the voltage yet but the machine that was having the solid light on the player 1/2 is missing Y1, C4, and C99 on the board. looks like they were there but either blew off or broke off.

Swaped the boards between cabinets and the symptopms follow the boards

Excellent. I'd repopulate those components and see what happens. Y1 drives the clock circuitry, so the board is definitely not going to boot without that. This is consistent with not seeing P1/2 blink, not getting into test mode, etc.

When you replace it, leave the legs a bit long so you can lay it down a bit. They break off too easily when they stick straight up.

Parts ordered from BR. I justed noticed today that one board has an A silk screened on top left and the other has a B.

Everything else looks pretty much the same except the dip switches are a different type

Have you checked your power supply out? It looks like you might have a bad Big Blue, or some problems with your power.

The edge connectors on these games are notorious - did you clean the edge connector and connector?

Remember, we're dealing with small signals here - all it takes is a few bad connections to wreck havoc on a game. When in doubt, turn off the power, and ohm out point to point from the pin to the connector landing spot, and look for low resistances (generally < 0.1 ohm or so). If you have higher, burnish the connections, then try again.

Checking your voltage on the game board also helps - it will help you find voltage drops.

I hate to steal someone else's thunder, but always start by checking your power supply!

So parts replaced and have the following going on. Both boards just switched between same cabinet in video. The second link shows when I go to test mode I get the two beeps but I have already replaced M1 and L1.

One board

This PCB is watchdogging in attract mode, and I'm not sure what's going on in test mode. It sounds a bit like it's trying to indicate a RAM failure, but the tone is much higher than it should be.

Other Board

Any thoughts please let me know

Similar problems here. It seems to be stuck in test mode, so flipping the switch doesn't do anything. The beeps are telling you there's a RAM failure and they sound correct, but it's resetting before it completes.

Do the board behave any differently in the other cab?

At this point, I second ArcadeTechGW, you should check out your power supply. There's are +5v and GND test loops on the PCB, measure using those and adjust the pot on the AR2 until you read a steady 5.05v. Then switch to AC, and if you read more than a few mV of AC in those lines, replace the big blue.

Test and report back. Seems like you've got some good lean, but if you get stuck, I'd be interested in buying the PCBs off you.
