Twin Galaxies original building hosts Lon McDonald Joust Tour USA

joust-Saturday.jpg

July 14 2012 Saturday Morning at 8AM,

Site 61.

Nothing like a guy who grew up in Iowa heading back to Iowa to the Mecca of Gaming locations: Twin Galaxies Original home.

My information says It possible no one has played in here since the 80s.

It will stream live.

This should be a nice day.

It is accurate that a video game event hasn't been played in that location since TG closed in the 80s.

Booking the location was an "alignment of the stars" so we are counting this as a very unique experience and quite appreciative of the Optical shop's help.
I have a friend who is a friend of the owner, and my wife has a connection to one of the employees.

The Dr. doesn't normally work all Saturday morning but made an exception to accomodate Lon's tour experience.

That is pretty cool. Good job out of you putting this together.

We were in Ottumwa a couple of weeks ago and I was trying to remember which current store housed Twin Galaxies. I went there a few times when I was a kid but the downtown has changed a lot in 30 years.

I may try to get down there Saturday to check this out. Then hit the Canteen for lunch.

are y'all gonna plug in the games in the locked office so nobody can unplug them during a record attempt?

ha, apparently Pat Q. has told you the story of the late Pat Harville unplugging the game during an 80s Nibbler WR attempt then laughing hysterically. good stuff.

Lon's test runs on the machine are done. Everything looks to be a go.

If the game gets started at 8am, it'll be around 1pm when it finishes.
Lon will be streaming the event on his channel, too.

Even if you show up toward the end, we can still do canteen lunch. :)

Wow... looks like a LCD screen in that Joust and the joysticks look HUGE! My bet is it's a multi-Williams machine? That t-molding confuses the hell out of me too. :)

I took my youngest son to Ottumwa today and we stayed for a few hours. We both had a great time. He asked me arcade questions all the way home. Nothing like getting the next generation interested in classic gaming.

Thanks to Lon and 1500points for putting this on and being great hosts!

Site 61 complete
WR to be verified

Kudos to The Hoff's, the picture of gracious coordinating hosts.
Doctor Mark for opening his optical store and catering to our needs.
To Patrick and Starworlds for the materials and professional support!

And to those that streamed and those that attended,
Thank you.

Here are the details of the WR at the original TG site- http://www.robotron2084guidebook.com/?page_id=1327

WP34- Really enjoyed sharing Black Knight pinball with you and your son. Very nice young man and he is quite talented at the timing for some tricky shot. You guys are welcome anytime you want to stop by and play BK or EBD. Good luck on talking your wife into getting a pin machine.

PS- Jeff, that is just a 3/4 ply table top that I added a base to, running Mame with a laptop. Started as an exact 1-1 replica of my joust machine then I've cut it down multiple times to get it to fit just right in the spot in the house. The joysticks are just normal 3.5inch wico leaf 8 ways. The illusion is due to the width of the CP being narrowed down from a real machine.
