TV tube swap-in questions

So let's say I have a Galaga with an almost great monitor. The chassis is recapped with a new flyback, the colors are stunningly bright and the image is rock solid.

Only problem is, the tube has bad pac-man burn on it, and I'd like a nice burn-free tube in there.

So I think, no problem - I'll just look on craigslist and find an old 19" tv for $10, take the tube out and swap it in to the Galaga.

But - problem. The TV's tube has a different neck pinout. Specifically, it uses the 31 adapter on my tube rejuvenator, rather than the 23 adapter that like every 80s arcade game tube has.

So is that just a bust - there's NO WAY to use this nice burn-free tube in the Galaga??

A related question - had the the TV's tube had the same neck, is that at least a near-guarantee that it will swap right in and work with the chassis that's already in there? Or are there some (or alot) of chassis/tube combos that won't work together?

Thanks in advance!

- Wes

Sorry guys - b4 someone says "jeez dude don't ya read around a little bit b4 you ask a question?"....

I found the whole tube donor db, etc. So I think I'm good now on my original ???s. :)

You must also measure the the resistance on the vert and horz. This is what I found on another thread. Kudos to the poster.

Set your multimeter on 200 ohms. NOT "K" ohms as we are going to read values between 1 and 60 ohms not 1000 or higher.

To measure horizontal, put one of your meter's leads (doesn't matter which one) into the RED connector and the other into the BLUE for horizontal. Should be between 1 and 4 ohms.

To measure vertical, put them in the YELLOW and GREEN. Should be between 7 and 60 ohms.
When measuring be sure to put solid force and let the meter stablize for a few seconds, sometimes oxidation can cause much higher resistance readings and give wrong measurements.

The donor tube should be within spec of the original to be considered a "drop in". I have done 2 recently. My last, I lucked out and found skinny neck which was an exact match. The other, I ended up swapping the yokes. Which isn't the funnest job.
