TV to Arcade monitor?

you want to talk about shitty, one of my MAME cabs has a TV for a monitor via RF adapter from a late 90s laptop that only had a composite out. thats going from shitty to shittiest.

Yes.

What the hell is the point of a 10 character minimum requirement anyway?

Awesome, so thats what i want then... Onto my next question, again i apologize about my dumb-ness. Now to be on S-video or composite, you need to be on the right input on the TV, right? So how can i make it so it stays on the right input while the machine is off so when i turn it on i dont have to do anything?

and also i guess it would need a power supply or something so i do not have two cables coming from the machine?

my tv stays set on the same input or channel when its shut off. it also powers up as soon as it is plugged in, if it was turned on when it got unplugged.

Do you not have an arcade monitor currently or is it not working? I would prolly put an add in the wanted section for a local member to help you get your existing monitor working or sell you an arcade monitor.

Or you could take a look around and find a local operator who would sell you a monitor. I know my local op will sell me 19" monitors that work for around 50 bucks.

You could buy a surge protector that has a master control. Meaning, you plug your game into the Master and then plug your TV into the Controlled By Master. That way, when your game powers on, your TV will automatically power on: http://www.amazon.com/APC-7-Outlet-Power-Saving-SurgeArrest-Protector/dp/B0014GZFJA

Also, you might find a bit more help with set ups like this over at BYOAC forums: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com

ive tried the thirft stores, no luck. and those were LCD's im looking for CRT's for the orginal look
lol CRTs are even cheaper. You can get those for free! Last 19" CRT I bought I paid $5 for. Heck I got a 21" Dell gaming monitor for free.

If you're going to bastardize something into there anyways and not keep it an original arcade monitor, why not have yourself a whole lot of money and just check craigslist or the thrift store for a 20" or above CRT PC monitor? Why go through all the trouble of converting this and that for a picture you don't even know will be good? Unless you want something bigger than 21" I don't see what the problem is. Not trying to be rude it just doesn't make sense to me.

For those in the know, do the 60-1 games look good on a pc monitor? Do they at least look like a somewhat authentic CRT picture? I am definitely curious.

Most likely they look the same as when you play a MAME game fullscreen on a PC CRT monitor. Not bad, but not even remotely authentic (better than on an LCD though).

These X-in-1 boards are just emulators anyway; I believe I've heard that they [illegitimately] use MAME code, but don't quote me on that.

If I had the choice between a 19" viewable PC CRT monitor with RGB input and a 19" viewable TV with composite input; I'd take the PC monitor. Composite is nasty. S-video isn't that great either. If the TV had component inputs, I'd go with it over the PC monitor. I'd never be in this situation though; because I would do it right and use a standard resolution CRT arcade monitor in the first place.

The thing is, i eventually will get an arcade monitor since mine does not work. But in the mean time i still want something. It has gone unplayed for too long, and i have a tv just lying around so i figured i could rig something in the mean time while waiting to get the right stuff. you know?

Another option to consider until you can afford a new or fixed monitor is just put a PC w/Mame in the machine bypassing the original equipment all together. If your PC has a descent video card in it you can tweak mame quite a bit to get a more authentic look. I've used PC monitors a lot and for casual gaming they look really authentic in my opinion. (and my non-techy friends can't tell the difference)

Look in the local yellow pages for computer recyclers. I got a guy in my town that will just give me as many as I want for free. They usually have to pay to dispose of them.
