My daughters TV stopped working yesterday. She went to turn it on, nothing...not even the familiar click.

I cracked it open, checked the fuses and they're all good. Took a look at the flyback and it doesn't look like there is anything wrong with it. I gave it the general once over looking for anything obviously broken or burnt and I can't see anything.
Checked the power switch itself, and the power cord for continuity and they check out fine.

Any ideas on common things I can look at? I'd like to fix it if I can, rather than spend money on a new TV for her. It's an older RCA 13"...and we all know how older sets are built better than the new crap you find in stores.

I see 13" tvs on CL all the time for $5.

sorry I can't help troubleshoot your problem.

More than likely capacitors, possibly in the power supply area.
Can say specifically which because every tv is going to be different.

give it the old fonzy and see if you can get it to work. If so then you might have some cold solder somewhere...

OR your kid knocked it over and didnt tell you, and you have a cracked board.. look the board over well around the flyback and all the vertically mounted ics.

Do a search for the model # on google...a lot of times you'll find a posting where someone fixed one already, but I'd almost put money on bad solder points. Look over the bottom of the board carefully with a magnifying glass and let me know how many you find :)

Went over it, couldn't spot any cold joints or anything. The controls run through a series of 3 ICs.
I checked the rectifier and all diodes in the supply and power circuit (Fine), all the resistors in the supply section (Fine).

Stupid digital controls...

P.S. Can't find anything on the model# OR chassis number

What's the chassis number? You can use that to look up the Sam's photofact for the set. Try removing the horizontal output transistor and powering it up. It might have failed shorted. (set should make a soft chirp instead of turning on) If that's the case, removing the transistor and turning it on should get you sound but no picture.

You should get similar readings on B>C and B>E on the HOT right? I'm getting a high (395) reading from B>C and very low (45) from B>E (Reverse leads reversed results on B>C but still low/nothing on B>E). C>E both ways is high.

Set still won't turn on with the HOT removed btw

If I do need a new HOT, can someone suggest a suitable alternative? The one in this set, doesn't seem to be available in anything but bulk from Chinese suppliers.

Most likely a problem in the power supply circuit..... Should be sectioned off from other circuits....

A lot of the newer TV's that won't turn on have caps that have failed in the power section. Especially if all of the fuses inside are still good, and it just quit working.
