Looking at this for a friend. Sound plays when first turned on and game is started, but then starts cutting out after a few seconds and then goes away completely.

The friend had already replaced the amp and some of the caps, but not all of them. I'm going to replace the others, but was wondering if there are other issues I should be looking at? Volume pot does make sound go up and down when it is working.

This is being bench-tested and all voltages (including -5) are present...

Try some component cooler to the amp when the sound goes out. My thinking is that it is like a flashing Christmas light bulb. When cool it makes the connection, then heats up and connection is lost, cools and makes connection again.
