Turns out I have a Galaxian Kong!

Yeah, that is pretty funny :) The one in MAME does that as well. Another bit of info, Crazy Kong normally kill screens at level 22 (just like DK. I've managed to do it twice, once on that cocktail I posted). The Galaxian and Scramble conversions start at level 11 (even though they say 01), and both kill screen after 12 levels. So I assume yours would too (if you could clear that many levels ;) )

Yah, I doubt I could! I was lucky I made it through one round! How far do you think you could make it on this version?

Not sure. I think the down elevators move super fast on level 2 and are almost impossible in MAME. Since yours starts at the equivalent of level 11, I'm guessing yours doesn't have the super fast down elevators, as it didn't look that hard in your video.

That is just because I am really good! :p They are pretty fast, but I need to get my DK working to really compare.

Wow! I've been searching for years trying to find the bootleg I used to play BITD on a cocktail cab too, and here it is!
We used to play the crap out of it! I remember the hole where the joystick comes out gashing my knuckle open as I frenziedly tried for a hi-score, I actually did get good at this!
And those sounds - I never thought I'd hear them again! Nice one for posting the vid mate, and I totally understand why you enjoy this crazy variant of Kong!

CrazyKongFan wants me to sell it, but I am so hooked on this game! It is awesome!

real cool, checked this out in mame, me and my buddy are stoked to have a different version of kong to compete on!

So CrazyKongFan stopped by yesterday on his way back from FunSpot, and he got in some games on my Big Kong.

He is awesome at it, serious barrel steering going on!

He is a great guy and I really enjoyed the visit!

Craziness. Looks like a bootleg Galaxian to start with. The Midway version is a single board with a satellite for the ROMs. It is very similar to a Pac-Man PCB. I don't have a pic of one but the Pac with give you an idea if you don't already know.

Beat me to it. Argh.

Here is a few pics of my Midway Galaxian board.

The barrels steer alot easier since you're actually starting on a high level. It's still alot easier if you just do the jump cheat instead :D After playing yours and the one in MAME, the one in MAME definitely has faster elevators. The down elevator moves ridiculously fast and is nearly impossible to jump on without dying. The conveyor belts on the one in MAME also move really fast starting on level 2, but those are the same as on regular Crazy Kong part 2, so I'm used to those. Thanks again for having me over, was nice to see the game in action, and to see some of your other games :)

Somehow, the sounds for this game need to make it into MAME or a multi-game.

They're bootleg-a-licious.

That is a Galaxian? Every one I have ever seen, or had, was a single board, not a stack. They look a lot like a PAC. On-board power rectification, etc...

If you look closely at a Pac-Man you will notice there is an empty row that is nothing but direct traces across. Compare this with a RallyX board that has ribbon cables in the same spot, and you can see how Pac can be a 2 board sandwich set. I think Galaxian is a bit more complex in the middle of the board but I know I've seen lots of clones of that board, including one from Sega that I thought looked like it could be separated at that point as well.

In fact I swear I have seen that original Namco boards (not Bally/Midway) were indeed dual layer. They're rare but out there.

However it's likely that production costs on a large single board were too high for the bootleggers so they produced two smaller boards instead.
