Turns out I have a Galaxian Kong!

The screen shot on this page doesn't match the graphics on my Big Kong:

In mine the Kong doesn't move and the graphics look different. Looks like the How high can you get DK.

Yeah, the one in MAME is hacked from one of the regular CK sets, whereas yours is from the Galaxian or Moon Cresta conversions. On the conversions (maybe due to less memory or graphic space? Not really sure), Kong isn't animated at all, except when you clear the board. I remember playing one of these conversions BITD, but I think it was just Crazy Kong, not Big Kong.

Yes Kong doesn't move when playing, but does in the intro and stage completion.

If you don't mind doing another video, I'd love to hear some of the audio from it. Not sure if you can finish a whole level (to clear the rivet board and see if it has any music like the other CK sets do)

Yes, I will try and shoot it tonight. I want to get the monitor adjusted too. Also up and down on player one doesn't work. The wires are broken off at the connector, so I need to solder them on too. But I can just play on the player 2 side.

Man, that is a sweet deal so far. Isn't it nice when stuff works out for you? I would also like to see an update video.....keep us up to date.

Just saw your videos and subbed. Cool little cab. Tried it out in mame too. What a goofy little game! I lost my last guy getting ran over by a barrel rolling uphill on the girders! Crazy!

I would definitely be interested in seeing some more of your videos on this thing.

Wow that was a trip....lol

Just tried it out in Mame, it's not an exactly easy game. I like the puzzle element to pass the Barrel level...lol.

Once you get to the L2 stages, things start moving fast, especially on the Pie Factory stage, the conveyor belts are almost ridicules fast.

Thanks for going thru the trouble of recording a game. Neat to see a real one being played. Sounds similar to the Galaxian bootleg CK in MAME, but not exactly (unlike my "Pac-Man on Galaxian hardware" PCB...it sounds pretty much identical to MAME, although it has some graphical issues that haven't been resolved yet). Oh, and while doing some searching on "Galaxian Kong", I found the following:

Looks the same as the sheet of paper you had in yours (except the scribbles on it are different ;) )
Hey Blades, the one in MAME plays a little different, since it's based on (I think) the Orca set...that one (and all the CK Part 2 sets) have really fast conveyor belts starting on level 2. Tighe's is like the Galaxian and Scramble sets, where it starts out at level 11 difficulty (notice the barrel flies out like level 3 or higher on the level 1 barrel board, although it doesn't do it in attract mode, as seen on one of his other vids)) but has normal conveyor belt speeds.

This is all just so fun! I didn't think I would like this game so much with its limited palette and audio. But it is FUN! I love the barrel stage and all its crazyness!

The scribbles on my sheet are just the notes of the person who installed the board in the cabinet. I have to say that I hate working on this style cabinet! It is a real pain in the ass. Nothing like a Midway cocktail where you can actually adjust the monitor without fear of shock! Also the flyback coil is right up against the bottom of the cabinet, so you can't adjust the screen without removing the chassis! Although maybe I should look to see if there is a hole in the bottom of the cabinet for a screwdriver.

I'm pretty sure that's a converted Space Invaders cocktail. In which case, it was never intended to house a color monitor...

Ian, it sure is a space invaders cocktail, and a Japanese on too. The monitor is a standard color monitor, not a inverted video one like Nintendo cabinets use. The funny thing is that is uses the original SI wiring harness as far as I can tell, with an additional connector for the up, down etc. It really is crazy.

Can you take a look at the end of the video? I have some video of the DK Cabaret i picked up too. The graphics are split like we discussed, also the game runs at almost double speed. You seemed to have some inkling as to what might cause the problem. It is a 4 board stack, any ideas where I should start?

Also there are 2 chips on the outside of the stack toward the bottom that have to aluminum heat sinks on them, and I can see what looks like heat marks on the board above them. I don't know if they are damaged or just that the heat from them left marks on board.

I will post another video tonight if I get the chance.

Ian, so I took a look at the flyers and my cabinet is actually Space Invaders Part II which came with a color monitor. I can tell because mine has the same control panel graphic as the one in the Japanese flyer:

Miscellaneous

This game was released in America by Midway as Space Invaders Deluxe. "Deluxe" uses a color overlay, however, instead of a color monitor.

Star Worlds in Dekalb IL has a Crazy Kong cocktail in one of those cabs too (looks like the same artwork on the CP, although the shades might be little different) They don't have the locks on the front though. It's definitely a Taito cocktail (he also has a Taito cabaret with "Donkey King Jr" in it). Anyway, it's got a regular Falcon Crazy Kong Pt 2 PCB in it, but his has it on the bottom of the cab (behind the bottom door the hinges open below the CP area):

Or sell it to me :D Yeah, they're not too common. I've got a bunch of different CK boards, 3 different styles, but no Galaxian or Scramble conversion ones. I do have one of those "Pac-Man on Galaxian hardware" boards though, which is kinda neat. Weird colors and Galaxian type sounds instead of Pac-Man sounds. Sweet discovery anyway, glad you got it working!

I wonder where you got that?
