turning an empty sega / gremlin cab into frogger - what i need ...

ok guys, i got an almost empty sega / gremlin cabinet for free. this cabinet is probably the ugliest conversion i have ever seen, almost everything on it has been hacked / replaced. are you ready? this is going to hurt ... ;)

most of you american guys would probably say "throw this thing away", but sega / gremlin cabinets are so rare in germany (and in europe) that it might be worth saving. so please support me :)

since frogger is one of my favorite games, my idea is to convert the cabinet back into one. parts i've been able to source so far are

- art package from arcadeshop (sideart, cardboard bezel, marquee, overlay
- got a coin door and a control panel from quarterarcade
- found a wiring harness and a pcb from a klov guy

what i'm looking for are the plastic bezel (which goes around the monitor glass) and the thin silver XXX (which goes under the control panel). i've marked the two parts on the following picture in red:

i'm also looking for a speaker and (if possible) the light fixture - see picture:

questions:
- does anyone have those parts?
- which other crucial parts am i missing? (i don't have a frogger cab for comparison)

correct coin door but, looks like you have a problem as it looks like it might have been widened, remove the existing and see if its been hacked up to fit that door.

probably the curved tinted plexi that gos over the monitor if frogger had one,it screws onto L clamp things on either side of monitor.would have thought any marquee light would do you as long as its right for the power.

would have thought frogger is like moon cresta so the marquee actualy has a bottom retainer not a top one,if you remove that the marquee might be slightly smaller than the marquee area and it might have a springy strip of steel that holds the marquee in place,i think the marquee inserts into the top of the marquee area in a groove and that spring holds it up and tight, then the bottom rerainer screws on.

there is also a silver strip that gos along the bottom of the front, not just the top as you marked out.

contact cyclo as he has a frogger over at j+ if he aint sold it,he might part it out, worth asking him.

i can grab you a few pics if you need of my moon cresta, its basicly the same although the kit is different, also i painted mine light grey as it was a weird browny laminate color,i intend to relaminate in future/woddgrain.

I personally think it's great that you're saving it. These games are vanishing fast. Be sure to take pics through the resto!!

thx a lot for your replies so far guys, keep 'em coming!

definitely a hack here, someone told me this might be a bally / midway coin door. most likely i'm going to replace the entire front of the cab anyway!

curved tinted plexi? do you have that on your moon cresta? no idea what you're talking about ...

that silver strip is not on all sega / gremlin cabs and therefore not on all frogger cabs, i have found one picture where it is present. i have to agree, would be cool to have it though, let's see if i can find it!

i might ask him, but his cab is a project cab as well and a lot of parts would have to be replaced as well. btw, his cab doesn't have the silver strip either!

anything i'm missing electronic-wise?

Is there woodgrain under the paint?

i dont think so, the front panel seems to have been hacked as well! however, i'll be repainting / revinyling the cab anyway and most likely i won't be using the woodgrain stuff, because although it was originally there, woodgrain simply sucks. i might go with either green, blue or even white / grey - let's see ...

For the speaker:
http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=SPKR6X9
I believe that will work for you.

that might work indeed, looks like the original speaker to me - thx a lot!

are you sure that silver strip for the top under the cp isnt there?i get the impresion its there but,its been painted and i can see where the silver is coming through where paint is scraped off?

depends what hardware frogger runs on,is it unique or does it run on galaxian hardware?

if its galaxian hardware i assume it will get power to the board from a switcher, obviously the monitor needs a transformer,so basicly you will need a harness or modify the current one for frogger pinout.

i attached pic of the plexi on mine, might not be on a frogger,i cant take pic without the art there as its all fixed,it means i would have to dismantle the plexi on the front and strip out some of the art.the tinted plexi might just be unique to this cab i have but,i dont think its an after thought,it looks like it was factory done as the plexi is even shaped to go with the contour of the tube.

as for insides, mines pretty much hacked,i can live with the non original parts but,my harness is a mess so that needs definately doing again in future.i actualy planned to jamma harness it as i have a adaptor for my moon cresta so i would be able to shove other vertical shooters in it.

My Frogger is original and has the strip. There are a ton of aluminum extrusion dealers online... I'd be happy to take pics/measurements best I can to try and match it.

I have it all but the light. I have a complete Frogger -the cab.
PM me if you want it

unfortunately, the deal didn't happen. we had it all together, but then communication stopped for no apparent reason and he didn't answer any of my emails / pms.

does anyone here know tomtime?

because of that, the search for frogger parts continues ...

I'm liking the Carnival you have there. The woodgrain must be because it was an export cabinet. All the ones I have seen (around 5 in all) are white with side art that has a mean looking bear on it. That is one of my grail games (the other being a Super Pac upright). I played it at the YMCA and a laundromat as a kid. I haven't seen a working one since about 1983. I play it in MAME sometimes but I really want the real deal.
