Turn out the lamplight. Just grabbed my first game. Dynamo with Marvel vs. Capcom?

My name is Aaron and I'm here to say, that I love Fruity Pebbles in a major way.

Long time arcade game fan, first time owner. My cab appears to be a Dynamo HS1. Grabbed it for cheap from CL. Has some issues and is generally pretty gross looking, but it's playable:

The front of the CPO is mangled from being moved or something, and I noticed another overlay underneath so I cut some of the top layer away. Looks like this may have started life as a Street Fighter II World Warrior. I don't see anything underneath the WW overlay:

This logo is on the front. I was able to read the words this morning but I forget what it says:

Big holes from some sort of coin door lock thing:

Rear handles say "Midway Manufacturing":

Anyways, I have no plans to change out the CPSII equipment, but I would love to bring this back to it's SF2WW looks, and keep the newer game internals. Fill the holes, Bondo up some knicks and damage, paint it etc. Might sound silly but I thought it might be fun. :) Any idea if I'm on track with it being a dynamo, and SF2WW?

My daughter and I enjoying the new purchase. She cried when we had to take her up to bed, away from the game

Thanks for having me!

First of all...welcome to the addiction. It doesn't look like a Dynamo cab, other than the cut-corner control panel. Tough to say with the Street Fighter, could be a Turbo Street Fighter II CPO.

Congrats on the game, and welcome. I'm fairly "new" myself. Just started last month and already have 3 cabs. Eagerly wanting more, thou my wallet is empty.

Cute girl btw. I've tried to get my neice to learn how to play some MAME games that i've setup on the pc and extra cp I have. She just jams the joystick any way she can and doesn't really hit any buttons. But still fun to watch her try.

Looks more like an HS-5. Back angle is cut deeper thou on yours. Does it have the 25'' monitor? Mind if I ask how "cheap" it was?

Thanks guys. Yeah I think you're right about it not being a Dynamo. The Dynamo's on that site don't have the extra turn in the side panels next to the monitor. Plus next to the CP the side panel material is like 2 ply. I wonder what the heck it is then!

Well I'm not sure myself what it is, but if your really interested in knowing. This site is wonderful for that type of information, and best thing to do is check inside and out for any type of "marks" like that sticker and google em.

Nice. Great machine for your first time.

The wood planks on the side are weird. Wonder what that's about.

Congrats on the pickup! It's definitely a HS-5 cut corner Dynamo. EDIT: My bad, was going off first glance. Looks like a frankensteined cab.

One thing to check is if the battery was changed on the Marvel V. Capcom board before it dies on you. Here's one of many links that you can google on suicide batteries: http://www.jammarcade.net/cps2-suicide-battery-replacement/

To answer your question on SFII:WW, from my understanding, most WW setups you'll see are from conversion kits, but I have a strong belief that they released WW in a Dynamo HS-1 which is how I have mine setup and what I remember playing on BITD. I know for example that Capcom released SFIII from factory via HS-5s. I have since swapped my WW setup into a different HS-1 cab, but here's an old gallery of what it looks like:http://www.arcadecrusade.com/gallery/v/gamerooms/nesjess/sf2/

Welcome!

I wasn't sure if they were original or not, but I'm sure they are there to protect the sides from getting slapped and scratched into whatever the game was sitting next to. I'm guessing that with the holes for the extra coin door protection, and those side planks that this machine must have been somewhere rough.

Welcome!

You think it's an HS-5? Look above the CP on the sides, it's 2 layers deep with side material, and the side cut is shaped differently I think. I'll have to give it a really good look over tonight.

Yeah I actually have looked into getting the board "phoenixed". It's something I would like to do but I'm hoping the battery just lasts a bit longer as I have a ton of projects on my plate. I am swapping an engine into my 1990 M3 with the help of some friends, and I have a 10 month old, and a pregnant wife. So funds and time are at an extreme rarity. Doing some side work allowed me some loot to buy this game.

Oops, sorry I was just going off the cut corner and the fact that it had the 25" monitor. It looks like it may be a cab that has a cut corner CP and other parts frankensteined into it.

It does say Midway on the rear handles. Would that be Midway, like Mortal Kombat Midway?

You're correct. Someone here has a WW that was either HUO or was confirmed never converted sitting in a HS-1. I forget which.

Those planks aren't original and almost every routed machine you'll pick up has those coin door lock bar holes. I'd take a look inside and make sure they aren't structural to something. I had a Chase H.Q. with mystery wood drilled onto the sides, it wound up being the operators little project on re-creating how the CP closed. You'd be surprised what people do. :p

I think you got a good machine though. CPS-2 is a great system to get your feet wet with.

Edit: that's not a MK. They are a lot different from this. I am curious what is up with the Midway handles though.

Me too. I will take a good look and some pictures tonight. I'm trying to figure out a monitor issue with the game, and if it ends up being something that will cost me money to fix, the guy I bought it from is offering me a refund. It was advertised as not having any operating issues.

Hi and welcome. I'm kinda new as I only have one cab and need to save up more cash to get more.(after well buying cars) My X-men is now working except for the three and four player start buttons and I'm not sure what I did but after poping the good Xmen board yesterday all controls work great . I've also had fun swapping in some two button boards but my turtles ! seems to be messed up.

I'm still working on the feet and finding the right kind of working coin doors for a converted gauntlet(for cosmetic reasons). Alot of people on here get bored of beat'em ups but I play them for some mindless fun...and also I keep telling myself not to add more credits...(to see how long I can last)

did anyone not notice that it's double thick at the CP lid ala HS9?
It's still clearly not a HS9 so you really got me stumped.

Need more pictures and see how the CP is mounted... slide out shelf? more of the rear? Width of the CP.

Franken-cab comes to mind but it also may be a clone of some sorts. I had to look it up but that logo isn't a a 3KOAM either...

I took a ton of pictures tonight while I was working on it, hopefully they will answer some questions. The logo says "knock down industries". After looking closely I'm seriously thinking those side planks are original. The top part of the cab is a wider, separate piece like an HS5 and the planks neatly join together at that junction. Also, it is a 25in monitor.

Pictures. Sorry they're not the best quality.

CP folded down:

Side planks. These are not structural for anything on the inside, but they look like they might hold the weight of the entire top of the cab. They could be taken off, and the side of the cab would have that 2-piece look to it like the bigger Dynamo cabs.

And as I mentioned, the coin label on the front says "Knock Down Industries". No hits on Google for that, unless it's for a band that popped up but I don't see that logo on their site or anywhere else.

I took out the tempered glass and cleaned that. And while I had the CP opened up I'm noticing that all of the buttons and joysticks need to be completely removed and disconnected in order to remove the plexi glass and keep working on removing the overlay. Some of the connections on the buttons use slide on connectors, and others are soldered on. Looks like some laziness happened to this cab.

More than likely 'in the field' repairs. Ops back in the day, they wanted it fixed fast, to keep the quarters rolling in.

I just spent a good chunk of solder braid removing a ton of globbed solder on some old Happs Competition joysticks that I'm going to swap into a Dynamo cab I have too. No way to connect the wires properly until I cleaned the contacts on the switches.
